  1. Hello SCFLIER Forum Members.

This forum area is for me, the LUCKY SCFLIER Forum ADMIN, to tell y’all about stuff going on in the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum ADMIN World.

I did an “Admin Check” of how many Members are viewing posts on the forum, and how much “image memory” we are using against our Monthly Plan cost.

The more pictures we save on the forum website,  the more the forum costs per month — IF we exceed our storage space allowed.

I pay the bills,  and I am NOT asking for Member contributions.

And, in fairness, I myself am probably the king of SCFLIER forum image posting memory size.  Whoop de doo.

I will continue to pay the SCFLIER website bills,  which are Less than $ 100 per month to keep the SCFLIER Forum running.

I noticed that we were getting “close” - in a gigabyte kind of way - to our memory limit for our monthly plan bill.

So, I decided to spend an extra $ 9 per month (whoop de doo) to give us a nearly 50 X increase in image storage space for the SCFLIER forum members.
Wow   That is a bargain !

The message - please post more images of your SportCruiser,  flying trips you have taken,  and cool ideas for improving the SportCruiser (Experimental E-LSA), …,  and more.

But, Please keep your posts relevant to the SCFLIER topic area you are posting in !

Please use the search icon to find a logical place to put stuff.   PLEASE !!!

Please Don’t just create a NEW  topic when there is already an EXISTING   Topic area out there on the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum that FITS your idea.

Finally, if you know a SCFLIER SportCruiser member that only LURKS on the forum,  reading stuff, but never posting any ideas or pictures,  try and convince them to post something - in the correct topic area ! (NOT HERE !!!).

    Thank you

your friendly SCFLIER SportCruiser forum Admin

    Whoop de doo.

    The New plan :

    730931044.354420public.jpeg

  2. The Garmin 696 GPS is not IFR Capable, for example it cannot provide WAAS RNAV GPS guidance for LPV WAAS GPS Instrument Approaches.

However, the Garmin SL30 NAV/COM can provide lateral guidance cues (CDI on your Dynon screens) for an Instrument Approach with an ILS or VOR Based guidance.

The SportCruiser is really NOT the aircraft a Pilot would want to fly in HARD IMC Weather,  even if an IFR Capable NAV COM were installed.

    Heated pitot tube ?

    De-icing equipment ?

Stable platform in HARD IMC weather ?

    Two radios ?

Nope.   NOT a SportCruiser friendly environment.

Good VFR Weather ?  Light winds,  no or very little cloud cover ?   $ 100 hamburger flight ?   YES for a SportCruiser !

one more thought  - the FAA allows IFR Time Building,  with a safety Pilot in good VMC (VFR) weather,  IF the aircraft is a TAA Technically Advanced Aircraft.

There ARE versions of the SportCruiser, typically with Dynon SkyView panels,  that DO qualify as a TAA Technically Advanced Aircraft.

I have flown our 2010 PiperSport (many years ago) with the SL30 NAV/COM providing CDI lateral guidance to the KADS Addison Airport (North Dallas) runway 15 (now 16) ILS system.

Recommend you contact ThrustFlight and ask which of their ~ 10 SportCruisers in the training fleet qualify as TAA.

    To

    ALL SCFLIER SportCruiser forum members

I frequently get new SCFLIER SportCruiser forum members having trouble logging in to the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum.

This is typically due to a new member using the wrong password,  or, sometimes a new user enters their email address instead of their “Display Name” that they set during “SignUp”.

Email addresses are not used during SCFLIER sign in.

If you know of a new Member having trouble logging in to the SCFLIER Forum,  please let them know:

    1.  I, the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum Admin, do NOT get automatic notifications of failed password entry attempts.   I am NOT Automatically notified when you have been LOCKED OUT of the SCFLIER Forum.

    2. Automatic Notifications of Failed Password Attempts while logging in is not available to me at the ~ $ 100 per month I pay for the SCFLIER Forum Website.   Any Changes to our forum website software is done by PAYING the Website Maintenance Company  a stiff fee and then waiting in a long que for potential action.  Obviously,  this “Pay for a new Feature” path is taken VERY RARELY.   The good news is that our SCFLIER Forum website works well for most SCFLIER Forum users.

    3. With over 650 SCFLIER members worldwide ,  password entry failures are common.  DAILY.
    4. There is NO automatic password reset system.  The “system” will imply that an individual SCFLIER Forum member can set a new password by themselves,  but this does not function.   Only I, as your Lucky SCFLIER ADMIN,  can change SCFLIER user passwords.
    5. If you someday get locked out, Please Tell me !!! - via my Admin email what NEW password you want and I will manually enter it for you and get you going again.
    6. Please write down your password.  I get it.  I have lots of passwords also.   Please write down your SCFLIER Password
    7. And,  ANYTIME  that you or a friend - an SCFLIER SportCruiser forum member - is having trouble with SCFLIER,  PLEASE send me an email to my ADMIN Email address.  I respond quickly to emails sent to

                    scflieradm@yahoo.com

My Admin email address is right on top of the main SCFLIER Forum website page !

    Thanks !

Finally,   if you know someone - perhaps a potential new member attempting to GET ACTIVATED by me with  a new SCFLIER Forum Membership,  tell them three important facts :

    • Make sure that my Admin email address,    scflieradm@yahoo.com,   is NOT in their SPAM folder.    Please Put my Admin email address contact info into your known,  GOOD List of email addresses.
    • Potential New SCFLIER Members must respond to a simple email sent from ME, the Lucky SCFLIER ADMIN, with four easy questions.  There are no WRONG Answers !
      1) How did you learn about us ?
      2) Where are you located ?
      3) What airport (code) do you fly out of ?
      4) Are you a SportCruiser / PiperSport / PS-28 CRUZ aircraft owner / Pilot ?
    • There are a very FEW parts of the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum that CAN  be accessed by folks that DO NOT have an Activated SCFLIER account.    The picture below shows one of these SCFLIER Forum areas that one can access without  logging in - ie, NON Members can access these particular posts in this area ONLY.

    00001_SCFLIER_FORUM_Access_to_Non-Members.jpg

Do you know of a potential NEW SportCruiser SCFLIER Forum member that is having trouble getting access to our forum ?

As the SCFLIER FORUM Admin,  I require a simple TWO WAY E-mail communication from me to them and back to me, to that I know I have every new SCFLIER Member’s correct email address before ACTIVATING their new SCFLIER member request.

WHY ?    So that I can reach new Members (all SCFLIER Members) via email,   And they know how to contact me, via

    my SCFLIER ADMIN email address,

    scflieradm@yahoo.com

…if they have a password lockout scenario or a question for me.

I NEVER reveal any SCFLIER member’s personal information, including their own email address,  publicly on the forum.

Just last week,  a potential new member typed in THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS with an error, a typo,  and so I was unable to reach them via email.   On a hunch,  I corrected what looked to me to be a typo in  their email address sent to me,   And I was able to contact them via email,   And activate their new account quickly.

And,  FREQUENTLY,  potential new SCFLIER Members request a new SCFLIER account,  I send them my “two way email communication test “,  and I NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN.

I suspect my email to them, from

    scflieradm@yahoo.com

got caught in their email’s SPAM Folder,   And sometimes,  when I check my own SPAM folder,  I see new member’s responses to me caught in MY SPAM bucket there.  Easy to move that “NOT SPAM” email to my admin email inbox.

the Message - if you know of a potential new SCFLIER Forum member,  tell them to check their own SPAM folder for my email sent to them !

SPAM Buckets work both ways …

I am Trying to help new SCFLIER Members get activated quickly  and to join in all the SCFLIER SPORTCRUISER Forum fun !

Converting to ELSA doesn't solve the parts problem from the Czechs, it just means you (or some person somewhere) can "fabricate" a part.

    FlyAgain

    I agree !

CruiserAircraft obviously builds great parts for their very fine Light Sport Aircraft,  the PS-28 (called the SportCruiser in the USA).

The SportCruiser IS a rugged, well built airplane.

I would MUCH rather get the actual manufacturer’s original part - these parts have served us all well over the years !

And for those that have had a minor accident, replacing bent parts with factory  original design replacement parts is the best path to flying again !

Using only factory original aircraft specific parts is why I have been waiting for a LONG time to get the factory original center instrument panel bottom bracket !

The conversion to Experimental E-LSA does allow an aircraft owner to make “minor”changes to the aircraft - an example - installing a new Garmin Aera 760 GPS as an upgraded GPS replacement to the factory original Garmin 796 GPS.

And even a “MAJOR”Change - one that may affect aircraft flying performance as long as the E-LSA remains USA FAA Legal in the Light Sport Aircraft category - for example, installing  a new brand fixed pitch propeller - can be done by coordinating with the FAA and returning the aircraft to Phase I flight test as described in the E-LSA Operating Limitations.

But obviously keeping the strong, well proven, reliable SportCruiser aircraft structure AS IS from the factory is always a wise  choice.

Bittom line - speeding up getting factory original parts delivery to USA SportCruiser aircraft owners (and delivering factory original parts in other locations like the UK) would be great !

  5. One of the most common comments I get during "sign up" from potential new SCFLIER SportCruiser forum members is

“I am ready to buy a SportCruiser,  and I want to read the SCFLIER Forum to learn about the aircraft, problems,  manufacturer support,  Pilot's ideas  …

here are my standard comments = perhaps blunt. but true

"Be aware that there is little to no Czech Aircraft Manufacturer support for AIRCRAFT SPECIFIC parts in the USA..

CruiserAircraft in the Czech Republic builds the SportCruiser (called the PS-28 in Europe) at Kunovice Airport Czech Republic.

An aircraft specific part,  for example - a fiberglass engine cowling,  an elevator or aileron control service,  a
Bracket holding the instrument panel to the center console — literally can take months to YEARS to get from the Czech SportCruiser Aircraft Manufacturer.

Rotax engine parts,  brakes, tires, engine oil, heater control cables, Garmin / Dynon / PS Engineering and others’ parts,  for example, Avionics are easily purchased from the manufacturer or from multiple suppliers in the USA.

Over the last 14 years,  the Czech Aircraft manufacturers has gone bankrupt twice.  They no longer attend Oshkosh and have not sold a new aircraft to a private aircraft owner in the USA for years.   They sell SportCruisers primarily to Flight Schppls in Europe.

All that being said,  the SportCruiser is a fine Light Sport Aircraft.  It is easy to fly,  sporty,  economical,  and relatively fast.

But Useful load is VERY Limited with full fuel and/or two large people.  The 1320 lb max LSA takeoff weight is strict.

Some pilots convert their SportCruiser S-LSA to Experimental E-LSA thru a USA FAA Approved DAR to allow them to make ANY changes to the aircraft.    An S-LSA REQUIRES written tail number specific approval from the aircraft manufacturer - a Letter Of Authorization  (LOA) and the Czechs will NOT do that.

I really enjoy flying my Sport Cruiser !  It catches attention anywhere I land.

I have converted my S-LSA SportCruiser to Experimental E-LSA - years  ago - and have updated the avionics and even changed the engine from the factory stock  Rotax 912 to a Rotax 914 Turbo engine achieving major performance gains.
    Love the airplane.

A highly Recommended  article on LSAs in the USA below.

LSA’s are DIFFERENT - the FAA rules MUST BE UNDERSTOOD !

S-LSA FAA Operating Limitations are Key !  READ THEM

    1. Before you post a question or a new way cool idea on the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum,  PLEASE use the “Search Icon” at the top right Makn SCFLIER screen to see if the topic or idea has already been addressed here.  Add your question or ideas to this string..
    2. Please try and keep the forum organized.  If your topic belongs in Rotax Engines,  go to that “chapter” of the forum,  click on Rotax engine,  and scroll down to see if your particular topic already has a higher level posting existing.  Then add your idea or question to the end of that discussion.
    3. We can reduce overall memory size of the forum if we use “high enough” resolution pictures,  but not “TOO HIGH “ resolution that uses a LOT of memory on the website.   A free program called irfanview (and others) allows one to “Re-size” the original picture down to a limit of,  for example, 500 Kbytes providing a balance of good displayed resolution and picture size.
    4. .if you want to use an already existing SCFLIER Forum picture , the steps and pics below show how to get the SCFLIER FORUM LINK to the first ORIGINAL  picture and insert it in a new post without using additional memory:

Here is the original picture that I want to COPY A LINK FOR,  and reuse this same photo (and memory) somewhere else on the forum

the complete response from me , your LUCKY SCFLIER SportCruiser forum ADMIN, replying to James Devoy on the PS-28 / SportCruiser / Cruiser Pilots Facebook forum :

    “James Devoy

James. Thanks for the kind words.

And yes,  I am a volunteer, with a LIFE of my own, and a great SportCruiser to fly !

Sometimes I don’t respond as quick as some folks want,  but there is only ONE of me the lucky SCFLIER Forum Admin.

And a website like the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum is NOT free to me, your Admin.  I spend upwards of $ 100 per month every month, all year long,  to pay the website maintainer,  and I “give” my personal time (worth upwards of $ 10 per hour - ha ha ha )- to the over 650 members FOR FREE

because I enjoy doing the SCFLIER Forum thing,  and I love my SportCruiser !

Being the Admin and tending to Activating new SCFLIER members,  fixing locked out members with new passwords, …, can be a pain.

But overall,  since I became the second ADMIN of the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum way back in ~ 2018, the SCFLIER forum has grown from about 250 worldwide SCFLIER  members to now climbing over 650 members.

AND, the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum is FREE to All Members !

The SCFLIER SportCruiser forum is a great Internet forum,  with lots of knowledgeable Pilots / CRUZ LSA Aircraft owners,  who treat every member with RESPECT for varying opinions and ideas.

The SCFLIER SportCruiser forum is Highly recommended as a resource for potential new ideas, cool airplane pics and flying adventures,  and ideas for problems with your SportCruiser !

Use the SEARCH ICON (magnifying glass top right first page) to quickly navigate to “your” desired topic !

Just remember that if you have any SCFLIER problems,  send me an email

    at scflieradm@yahoo.com

and check your SPAM folder for responses from me !

    Enjoy FLYING your SpirtCruiser / PS-28 !

We were given a full tour snd the most obvious thing missing was a spares department of any sort.

    James

thanks much for posting your report on meeting with the Czechs at the SportCruiser / PS-28 factory !

As you have said,  the visit raises more questions than answers.

And, DUH,  having SPARE AIRPLANE SPECIFIC parts supply is a necessary thing to keep airplanes flying !

Of course,  Rotax engine parts,  fuel pumps,  Garmin and Dynon Avionics, circuit breakers, pitot tubes, …,  are available from many USA Sources such as AircraftSpruce, Garmin, Dynon, and Rotax parts distributors.  But items like wing skin replacements - aircraft specific parts -  need Czech Factory Support,  and waiting literally for years remains unacceptable.

I personally have had a simple SportCruiser center instrument panel bracket on order for well over a year with no response,  until recently when the USA Distributor at KBTF Utah instituted a web based Parts Ordering system,  that has shown great response from the KBTF USA Distributor,   but we are now moving into the second month waiting on the Factory Parts response…

Czech Factory Cash Flow problems may explain the problems…perhaps the Number 1 Priority in the Czech Republic is simply “staying alive” and paying the bills,  not developing a long term customer base of happy aircraft owners !

    D

  8. Roger Lee

Thanks for the ideas,  but no,  sorry,  that’s not it.

We have all the correct software and Admin settings.

There is NO Automatic Activation of new Members on the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum.

    When a person “signs up”,

    1) I get a notification of a new SCFLIER Member needing Activation

    2) I send the potential new Member an email from scflieradm@yahoo.com.  That is my SCFLIER ADMIN Email.  In this email, I ask the four easy questions in my  post above.   Also Copied below at the bottom.

    3) when (IF) the potential new SCFLIER Member responds,  assuming they aren’t a salesman, a rabble rousing SPAMMER,  or obviously not interested in airplanes* or Rotax engines*, I will manually ACTIVATE their new SCFLIER SportCruiser forum Membership.  One button click from me Activates all new SCFLIER Members   A Manual operation   By me.

    That’s it.

If the new, potential SCFLIER Member does NOT respond to my admin email,  they don’t get activated by me.

    Dave

    * It is rare,  but there are a VERY few “pure salespeople” types that just want to sell stuff.   They don’t give a flip about SportCruisers, or Rotax engines.

And, There are also a VERY VERY few obvious SPAMMER type folks that just want to spread “their rants” about something not even remotely related to airplanes or Rotax engines.

for these very few , I don’t Activate them.   Simple.

Since our SCFLIER SportCruiser forum has increased in membership from about 250 members years ago  to now,  over 650 members,  on the 400 or more times that  I DID get an email response from a potential new member,  only 4 have NOT been activated,  for the reasons discussed above.

A person interested in airplanes and Rotax engines - the other ~ 396 or so new SCFLIER Members added,  ALWAYS gets Activated by me.

    D

    My Admin “new member”

    two way communication email

contains the following four easy questions::

    1) How did you learn about us ?
    2) Where are you located ?
    3) What airport (code) do you fly out of ?
    4) Are you a SportCruiser / PiperSport / PS-28 CRUZ aircraft owner / Pilot ?

  9. Troubling ? statistics ?

    1) About 30 % of people that “Sign Up” to join the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum never complete the process,  and never actually get Activated on the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum.

    2) Of those people that actually complete the EASY process of me ACTIVATING their SCFLIER SportCruiser forum membership,

at least 95 % of those that are activated members with a valid Display Name and a valid Activated Password

    NEVER

post a thing on the forum.

    Why ?

    1) On the people who “sign up”,  But never get Activated,

I, as the SCFLIER Forum Admin, do require ALL Members to provide me with a valid email address, so that I can contact everyone with Admin answers if an SCFLIER member is having trouble on the forum….

and ALL new SCFLIER members must provide me an email answer to these four simple questions,  that I will NEVER give out  to any other SCFLIER Forum Members:

    1) How did you learn about us ?
    2) Where are you located ?
    3) What airport (code) do you fly out of ?
    4) Are you a SportCruiser / PiperSport / PS-28 CRUZ aircraft owner / Pilot ?

There are No WRONG ANSWERS to my four “New SCFLIER Member Activation” questions.

These are not particularly hard questions,  and I never publicly reveal any SCFLIER Member’s answers or your email address to ANYONE on the forum.

However,  I highly recommend and everyone should know that Each SCFLIER SportCruiser forum member can individually choose to post about their airplane (airplane pictures and flying adventures  are great !,  even if your airplane is NOT a SportCruiser / PS-28),  a member can choose to post about their airport,  their location or area of their country,  whether they may or may not own a SportCruiser / PS-28 airplane,  and if they may (or may not) be a licensed Pilot.   We have MANY Student Pilots who want to someday OWN a SportCruiser / PS-28 airplane !

The SCFLIER SportCruiser forum does NOT require SportCruiser aircraft ownership, flying a  SportCruiser, being a Pilot, or owning a Rotax engine.

EVERYONE that likes and is interested in airplanes can join !

Sometimes,  just learning more about a Bristell or Tecnam or RV-12 LSA,  or even a Lycoming powered RV-6A is helpful to all !

We have some SCFLIER Members who are NOT Pilots,  some that own OTHER Brand airplanes,  some members just want to learn more about ROTAX engines,  some members are CFI / CFII instructors of SportCruiser S-LSA, some are DAR’s,  some are from the UK, Portugal, Spain, Brazil,  South Africa, Peru, France, Canada,  the USA,  the Netherlands,  Ireland, …the more the merrier !

And, some possibilities ? On the folks that “sign up”, but never respond to my “two way communication” Admin email,

I Don’t know if my  “Member Activation” email sometimes gets caught in people’s email  SPAM folder,  or if they just don’t want to join when they learn it is not a “Totally anonymous” Forum …

IMPORTANT - although an individual members’ personal email address and answers to the four easy questions above are KNOWN to me,  the Admin,

I NEVER  “announce” anyone’s email address or their real name or airport location, …,  on the forum - I take  everyone’s privacy very seriously !

or MAYBE,  IF people just really weren’t that interested in joining,  and they give up when I ask them to answer the four simple questions for my Admin data (ONLY),

but about 30 % of folks that “sign up” to get their SCFLIER Membership Activated never complete the process.

    Bottom Line

I am simply  trying to help people JOIN  the SCFLIER FORUM,  to establish two way communication between me the admin and the new SCFLIER Member, and hoping that EVERYONE would Post some more pics or comments about their SportCruiser,  their Flying adventures,  and their Rotax engine questions or comments…

It really is among the most beautiful looking aircraft around.

    Dale

thanks for sharing the great pic of your elegant,  awesome looking SportCruiser !

    looks great !

the lack of hangar space seems to be a theme at every GA Airport in the USA.     Will your airport provide “25 year” low $ land lease space to build your own hangar ?  This  might  be the only way to get a suitable hangar available before the winter ?

    Enjoy the airplane !

PS - is that red device on the rudder a control lock ?? Do you use a ladder to remove it before flight ???

PPSS - got any pics you could share of the interior and avionics ?  I’ve never seen a 2023 Model SportCruiser in person…

Glad to see that the Czechs are building the 2023 S-LSA SportCruisers with the always open lower engine cowl flap !

That simple change to the lower engine cowling really reduces the HOT temperatures inside the CRUZ engine compartment !

  12.  SCFLIER Forum Members.

However, the SCFLIER SportCruiser forum still only has less than about 20 active SCFLIER members who Participate regularly !   WHY ???

My message To the over 600 Worldwide SCFLIER members who don’t participate :

LURKING on the forum isn’t useful to all !

PLEASE - if you haven’t done so already,  post some pictures of your SportCruiser / PS-28 Aircraft,  your flying adventures,  your questions about the SportCruiser and Rotax engines, …

IMPORTANT ! - your actual name, email address, airport identification, … or any personal information will NOT be revealed UNLESS you choose to do so yourself !

PARTICIPATION makes our SCFLIER Forum stronger and more useful to ALL Members !   Most everyone has an IDEA that may help other SportCruiser / PS-28 LSA aircraft owners !  The only “bad question” is the one that is NOT asked !

And RESPECT for everyone’s varying ideas and opinions makes this a JUDGMENT FREE,  Friendly Forum !
