  1. My first battery replacement was with a Duracell of the exact same shape and specs as your Expert Power but with a Duracell label on it. It lasted 2 years. I think they all are the exact same battery with different labels. Second battery was a UPG brand battery and it lasted about a year. I now have the Odyssey PC680 (amazing battery) and I'll report back when it dies which hopefully won't be for many years. And yes, LEGALLY, you need a LOA to change to a different battery but who gets one? Nobody. It's ridiculous that you need one and I agree. It's a "consumable". As for your coolant, Rotax approves the DEXCool 50/50 as it's what I use also but dont worry your secret's safe here. (along with your quick drain )
  2. That's a lithium ion battery and if it's cracked I'd remove it from the plane immediately. If oxygen penetrates the casing it will burn very intensely and could destroy the plane or worse. I personally would never use a lithium ion battery in an aircraft but that's my personal opinion. I dont think the factory ever installed lithium batteries as I've never seen them in the IPC. Is there a log entry for that battery?
  3. Hi Wayne, what battery is in it now? Is it a FG FORTE or something else? First, legally you need a LOA to change to a different battery. Will you ever get one? No, but at least you are informed of the legal aspect of changing the battery. My next step would be to call Cruiser Aircraft and ask them what to do. Can they provide you the exact battery the factory uses? If not ask them if the new battery they'll sell you comes with an aircraft specific LOA. This will prove for an interesting conversation for sure. The last importer in Texas, US Sport Aircraft, was even selling customers a different battery than the european FG FORTE and of course no LOA was provided. The latest IPC lists the part number for a battery as 3800D078 but the "description" only reads BATTERY 12V, 20Ah. I'm not a betting man but I'm willing to wager that the factory battery does not have this part number on it. This is just my opinion but many have just replaced their battery with one of the same specs, 12v, 20Ah. They are available everywhere at your local battery stores and online. Many will also not tell you this but since a battery is considered a "consumable" they just change it with one of the same specs. I'm E-LSA so my last battery change was to a Odyssey PC680 and it was the best decision ever. Was it 2 times the cost of a normal AGM battery? Yes, but well worth it. Here's a link to the same topic and question i started over 3 years ago. It's the same question you asked and you can read those responses also and make an informed decision for yourself. Hope you found some of this helpful.
  4. Hi Wayne and welcome........have a look at this topic and hopefully it'll help you with your decision.
  5. Amazing numbers !! Maybe I'll look into volunteering next year so my reason to go is two fold and to be able to give back to something I'm so passionate about..
  6. Me three. Were there ANY announcements at Oshkosh or on Facebook? I know they finally made an ADS-B decision to this forum but was this announced anywhere other than here? Next is the LOA announcement and hopefully another ADS-B solution using the GDL-82.
  7. Good morning Izzy. Sorry I missed the Josh episode on Facebook. I do fully understand the idea behind Facebook and how it helps people and companies alike and it can be utilized as a powerful marketing tool. If it helps my dog has a Facebook account that my girlfriend started for him but I dont use it nor would I know how to. He's a rescued Greyhound and that's how my girlfriend finds playdates and dog sitters when we travel. So it does help my dog. It actually helps my retirement also as I bought Facebook stock at the IPO some 5 years ago. It's now up over 500% for me, so all you Facebook users dont stop using it as I'd like to retire sooner than later. Back to airplanes........ Seeing who sold what would be interesting. I dont care about "large" purchases per se but rather all purchases from the aircraft manufacturers. As you stated I'm sure many, many checks changed hands at the show. That's why many people go. I for one love seeing and touching items that I consider "large purchases". I'm a visual person and it helps relieve tension as I release the check from my hands. But I consider my last purchase of my ADS-B box a "large purchase". Did I mention before I'm thrifty? There is still a lot of news to come out of Oshkosh since it just wrapped up and hopefully manufacturers will share their show experience online. I hope anyone from our forum who went enjoyed their trip. I know MikeOhaha was there and I think I read that Ronin5573 went aslo.
  8. To each his own I guess, I dont care for the color as it's just way too flashy for me. Maybe this was painted just for the show. Did they know it was a WEEK long show? I tend to like the white with the cool stripes and/or graphics like days gone by. When planes get too flashy they give the impression of a homebuilt to me as the sky's the limit with paint then and I've seen some go WAY overboard. A "little" flash with nice clean lines works for me but then again I'm just a simple creature. I haven't seen any pics or news on the website since the show started. I guess they assume EVERYONE has a Facebook account and will see it there. That's not the case but what do I know, I'm still one of the 5 people on the planet WITHOUT a facebook account, remember, I'm still a simple creature. If would be great info to see how many sales for ALL manufacturers happened at AirVenture.
  9. Those are the drain lines for the carbs, airbox and the oil canister vent lines. Every plane has them they are just trimmed so as not to hang down that far. They were photoshopped out in the photo posted by Ronin5573 which is not a real picture either. They photoshopped in the background because if you look through the canopy you see green, not a gray hangar. Where are the wheel pants? Planes without pants are NAKED. Not the best way to show off your best plane but what do you expect when they show up on the last day. The inlet shape for the radiator is different also.
  10. Thanks Izzy, I've been scouring the web reading news and watching videos for all the latest updates. Lots of great news coming out of AirVenture this year.
  11. Yeah, what Izzy said. It's summertime and we have all the storms and humidity we could ever handle right now. No need to travel thousands of miles for the same thing. Where do I start?
  12. Just going to Oshkosh is on my bucket list, never been yet.
  13. Look at the line of traffic into KOSH !!!! This is a live tracker so it'll change all the time. https://www.flightradar24.com/43.88,-88.72/11 Don't forget to check out the live webcams they have on the grounds.
  14. On that same note Garmin is also hosting seminars all week and they have daily seminars on "ADS-B solutions". Maybe one of you forum members that are attending can personally invite ANYONE from the CSA tent over to listen to the seminar. It will likely fall on deaf ears but you can say you made an attempt. Hey CSA or Josh (since I know you lurk here ), do you think you'll actually make an announcement this year for a solution to the fast approaching 2020 ADS-B deadline??? Your PAYING AND SO FAR STILL LOYAL customers would like answers and they dont wish to see the the proverbial can kicked down the road yet again. Just so the CSA group is aware, Garmin offers an ADS-B "out" solutions for every "flavor" of legacy SportCruiser no matter what transponder configuration they have, it's called the GDL-82. You should have a look at it while you are at Air Venture.
  15. Just got an email from Dynon and their new products that they will be showcasing at Oshkosh. They have a new D3 Pocket Panel that is touch screen with synthetic vision and and new, dual band portable ADS-B traffic and weather receiver. Be sure you stop by their booth and check them out. They also have forums going all week for those interested.
  16. For those of us who are not lucky enough to get to attend Oshkosh 2018 we can at least have the next best thing........Live Webcams and LiveATC! The live webcams at Oshkosh are now up and running and we can also listen to the communications live all from the comfort of our favorite chair, WITH air conditioning. Here's the link, https://www.eaa.org/en/airventure/eaa-airventure-news-and-multimedia/eaa-airventure-webcams
  17. Let's plan a SportCruiser gathering at Deland this year. It's November 1st thru the 3rd. I'll start another topic for that show about a month and a half out to give everyone time to fit it in their schedule.
  18. Maybe one day I'll make it up to this great gathering of airplanes but for now I'll have to settle for the three great gatherings right here in my backyard in Florida, all of which are less than a 40 minute flight away. (Deland, Sebring & Sun-N-Fun) For all those who may be going to Oshkosh, enjoy the trip and be safe.
  19. Hence, the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Poking the hornet's nest from time to time also helps. We will just have to "wait and see" how this plays out. Remember, they've been promising a SB for ADS-B for what, two years now. If this ever happens please dont expect it to happen anytime soon. Better late than never right? Palle, this is just the word on the street from one of my sources and besides a girl doesn't kiss and tell. Let's see if we can get a response, if any, from Cruiser Aircraft.
  20. Well, seems there's another turn of events with CSA in regards to LOA's, there is now talk that MAY and I stress MAY lead to LOA's being issued by CSA. After Cruiser Aircraft told Charlie Lima "do not request LOA's, they will not be issued" there is now a renewed interest by CSA to issue LOA's/MRA's to its owners once again. Seems like the ink isn't even dry on Charlie Lima's post and there's yet another change of direction at CSA and Cruiser Aircraft. What is going on with these companies? Maybe this change will be for the better. It appears they can't ignore the 800 pound gorilla in the room any longer or make up excuses about EASA certifications being the reason why they can't issue LOA's/MRA's. All 3 of the other EASA certified manufacturers, Tecnam, Flight Design and Evektor all offer LOA's/MRA's in mere weeks with little or no cost to their owners. The other manufacturers even have forms available ONLINE for their customers to fill out. What a concept. And as we now know all of the other major LSA manufacturers issue LOA's/MRS's to their customers. I've been beating this drum for years and it's been falling on deaf ears, well maybe they can finally hear now. Time will tell. There is just no way for CSA to sidestep this issue forever and maybe now they are actually seeing how their decision affects their sales, market share and their bottom line. Hit'em where it hurts they say. I know Izzy had brought this whole LOA/MRA issue to their attention while he was their salesman there and it mostly went ignored. I think he even forwarded the CubCrafter MRA form to CSA so they can see just how easy it is for their customers to simply fill out a form for "minor" changes. It's not rocket science people. When will this happen? It's anyone's guess but maybe Josh or someone at Cruiser Aircraft can elaborate more on this topic..........wait for it..........wait for it.......... Josh? Hello? Is this thing on? We can't hear you.
  21. I never got this lesson Bob, maybe it's just another one of my shortcomings. I post here, good and bad, so others are armed with the information they need to make an informed decision. Purchasing an aircraft is not for the faint at heart and you should know as much as you can before jumping in with both feet. I wish this forum was in full swing like it is now when I was looking for a LSA and at the SportCruiser specifically. There is a lot of information here as I'm sure it's the same for other owner's forums of the other LSA's. I love my SportCruiser and would still buy it then knowing what I know now but I certainly could have saved myself a lot of misery, headaches and banging my head against my desk by simply converting to E-LSA the same week I bought it.
  22. I only know of Josh but of course there may be others lurking in the shadows. He may be on reading the forum but he's not a big poster, of course his hands may be tied by CSA or CA. I dont know how often he's on so that's why my question to you. I would think a formal request direct to them would be the proper way and may even warrant a faster, if any, response from them. I'll egg them on and say that I just dont foresee them responding on this unofficial forum, even though it's the largest collaboration of owners on the web. We'll see it they respond. Izzy would have been all over it by now. We miss you Izzy. (that's me poking the hornet's nest again)
  23. Dave, did you formally send this directly to Cruiser Aircraft or just post it here on the forum? Just curious. I assume they are here lurking from time to time and Josh at Cruiser Aircraft is a member but a formal request would be the best way. Will you get answers, I'm not so sure.
  24. Well said Roger. It is a shame that no LOA's/MRA's will be issued, while every other manufacturer that I researched does, and I also feel that it will only hurt the company and their sales going forward. I also feel that this will also affect the resale value of any S-LSA SportCruiser going forward. I'm certain CSA will be happy to finally issue this ever elusive SB for ADS-B out for the legacy fleet so they can get the US market off their back. If the FAA didn't mandate this they probably would have done nothing. Since they, once again, didn't deliver on the date promised for an ADS-B out solution it's anyone's guess now when it'll happen.
  25. Oh, and PS..........from the looks of things and the, once agin, new direction of CSA, there will be even more E-LSA SportCruisers flying around.
