  1. I understand you are hoping to get this equipment approved and installed. Please keep in mind you are talking about waiting until July to "get the latest information" because the ADS-B deadline is fast approaching. If this is the equipment you are wanting I'd start the LOA process today by filling out the form and get the ball rolling. What if CSA just drags their feet as usual? With with the end of the year approaching you run the risk of being grounded or unable to fly in rule airspace. I wish you luck with this.
  2. Hi Mike, I applaud your optimism on this actually happening. I know we talked about this at SNF and you like their products. It seems like a simple solution but the install is another issue in my opinion. Have you submitted the LOA form to Josh yet for the uAvionix products? Please keep us informed as to the LOA costs and time involved.
  3. Hi Russell and welcome. Reading your post made me laugh and realize that you are the "new" guy here. There's a lot to read on this subject and the short answer is "no". CSA has already approved the Garmin GTX-335 for ABS-B out to satisfy the 2020 mandate. This alone took them several years to do as they simply dont like "change". Thankfully the FAA mandate forced them to address the subject for US owners or they never would have. It's HIGHLY unlikely they will approve anything else for ADS-B OUT. As mikeomaha stated he's also looking at the uAvionix equipment but the only way that would EVER be considered is for an owner to apply for it through CSA's brand new LOA process. To date, I know of no one who has started or gone through the process. CSA, after 13 years in business, just finally, within the last few months, came up with a LOA process. Mind you it's the most difficult and most expensive LOA process in the industry for current owners from my research. I dont know if mikeomaha is going to apply for an LOA for the uAvionix products so we'll have to wait and see if he does. Just dont expect CSA to issue a SB for any other product for ADS-B out. The "10 minute install" also does not apply to the SportCruisers as you'll need to remove the old Kuntzleman strobes and driver box behind the passenger seat. The newer planes have different light all together. On top of that you'll need to install some sort of adaptor plate that will allow you to mount the uAvionix parts to the existing threaded holes in the wingtip of the SportCruiser. Add to that some rewiring before you can install the uAvionix wing tip products. Take it from me, it's not a 10 minute install. I swapped out my old Kuntzleman NAV/Strobes with new Aveo Engineering Powerburts all LED NAV/Strobes and had to make adaptor plates so I count mount the new lights. They do not simply bolt on the wing. Then some rewiring. Just swapping out my old school, Kuntzleman xenon strobes for the cool Aveo Engineering ones took several hours to do. Long story short, without paying a lot of money to CSA for time and research and for them to even consider this option could be a long shot. I give anyone props for attempting this new LOA process. Hope this clears up a few things and muddies the water some more on other items. Again, welcome to the forum.
  4. I plan on staying put here in Florida although I do love to visit your state. I've always told my girlfriend that she is welcome to move to California anytime. I also told her that I'd miss her and would visit when I could. I do know it's expensive but it is beautiful out there. As is Arizona and Utah, I love both places as well. My girlfriend is a tax attorney and she knows the value in Florida for retirement, when that time comes. Now that we have 3 very nice annual aviation expos/shows here in Florida and great weather for year round flying why would I go anywhere else?
  5. It is near perfect for flying Richard, except maybe in the summer unless you get out early. You going to make it to SNF?
  6. Believe me Bob, if my girlfriend could move tomorrow it would be to the "left coast" somewhere in California. She just loves it out there. I do also but I've grown up in Florida since I was a year old and dont know anything else.
  7. Good luck with your PT Skipper, the flying will give you something to think about while you are recovering. Sorry you can't make it to SNF, there's always next year. When you recover and start flying you should plan on attending the Deland LSA show in November, it's the 14th thru the 16th. It's small and growing but worth the short flight over.
  8. LOL. You'll NEVER see any negative density altitudes here. If you need that then dont waste your time packing. FYI, the other thing you'll NEVER see here is that funny white stuff on the ground in our sunny, winter months. (if you really want to call it "winter")
  9. Come on Warmi, do you really need to ask? All the cool kids are doing it.
  10. Welcome Skipper and ditto to Deltafox's comment, thank you for your service. There is a lot of info here about the SportCruiser. Deltafox is your guy for flight instruction here in our area. I'm sure he'd be glad to take you for a spin. I'm based at Zephyrhills about 16 miles NE of Tampa Exec. I only assume that we'll see you at Sun N Fun???
  11. Yes, welcome to both Necco and Flyingconch. Please share your experiences as we can all learn from each other. Flyingconch, I've done dozens of upgrades to my 2007 and love them all. Ech one makes the plane better and safer. I have several more on my list and dont know if I'll ever be finished. I'm E-LSA so many of my upgrades can't be done by the S-LSA owner. But even a 2008 can get many upgrades without the need for a LOA. I only know of one owner who's upgraded the legacy Dynon for the Skyview but he no longer owns the SportCruiser or the old Dynon goodies. You probably have a stack of SB's that you need to comply with before you even start upgrades. The return line being one you mentioned, there are several more to keep you busy if they weren't done already by the previous owner.
  12. Wow Justin, I love the color combo. Beautiful SportCruiser, enjoy !!
  13. A warm welcome JustinTC from across the pond in Sunny Florida. Tell us about your SportCruiser, pic?
  14. Welcome Johnathan and what an amazing story. A big congratulations to you. Looking forward to reading more about your CFI adventures. Your "Light Sport Man" title is a play on Florida's very own "Light Sport Girl". Margaretta is in Orlando and her goal is to get more people involved in aviation by offering free discovery flights. She flies a 2009 SportCruiser.
  15. Yes, welcome to the forum Todd. Glad you found the plane you wanted and I certainly feel your pain in a lengthy search. I spent over a year looking for the right plane. There's lots to take in here on the forum so enjoy the journey. Do you have plans to install the GTX-335 soon?
  16. Welcome James and I "fourth" all that, beautiful plane and thanks for sharing. I'm in Clearwater Florida so "somewhat" close. I've been up to Douglas Georgia for lunch but that's not even close to where you are up in the north end of Georgia. The Carling switches (or similar) you have are very nice and can be custom etched for anything but they do take up a lot of real estate. The mounting panels they offer also make for a clean install. I considered them for a while but decided to stick with switch/breakers for some added safety without the need for even more circuit breakers. I like the carbon fiber look of the panel as well and also thought about doing this but with a gray color to match the interior a little more and make the instrument pop a little. Beautiful plan and great work. Are you happy with the Jabiru engine? Any issues?
  17. Welcome to the SportCruiser forum FlyAgain. Everything you ever wanted to know is here for the reading. Pour yourself your favorite cocktail , sit back and take it all in. The SportCruiser is an amazing LSA with as you know sexy ramp appeal compared to other LSA's. She does have her quirks (depending on the mfg year) and so does the factory so when in doubt ask any question you might have. When you fly the SportCruiser/PiperSport the first thing you'll notice is how responsive they are compared to the old jalopy 172 you might be used to. When you move the stick the plane actually responds instantly not seconds later like a 172. And if you like technology you'll be blown away by the instrumentation, even though it only has the legacy Dynon glass. It's all you'll ever need in a glass panel. Please report back after your demo flight. Would love to hear your take on it. Welcome and enjoy.
  18. Welcome back Izzy, not being on to disappoint I just wanna be sure all our members are informed, be it for SportCruisers or STD’s. Ironically I was wondering about you yesterday and where you had gone. I almost texted you but I was getting ready to leave as we go to Savannah each year for Christmas. I was going to reach out when I got back. Hope you are doing well and I’ll want to hear about your new gig when you have time. Have a great holiday.
  19. Ok, The Villages. Totally off the subject and before you "set that in stone" you are aware that The Villages is the STD capital of Florida, right? (just sayin') Now, back to retiring and flying. As you probably already know the closest airport to there is Leesburg, +/- 20 miles as The Villages is a massive community. There are a few scattered around The Villages but they are all private. KLEE was the airport I first soloed at when I lived in Orlando so I have fond memories of Leesburg. If you ever make it down to the Tampa/Clearwater area while vacationing in Florida BEFORE you retire let me know, I'd be glad to take you flying in my SportCruiser.
  20. Welcome spd2918, this is a great forum with LOTS of info here for the "reading".....which can be like drinking from a fire hose at times. Are you moving to Central Florida now or in 4 years when you retire? Where to? I lived in North Central Florida for many years and in Orlando for 20+ years but now I'm in Clearwater. There are several SportCruiser owners in the Central Florida area. I know of a few schools and individual instructors that I can recommend that can get you your SPL, even one on this forum. Let us know more specifically where you're headed if you care to share. "Central Florida" is a vast area.
  21. I could start a new topic for this and add a "shared" Google map that others can add a drop pin for their location if you like. But as Dave said many may not want their location shared and are concerned about privacy issues. I don't know how many would even use it. It could be a simple drop pin at your airport with your screen name but again that may be too much for some to share.
  22. Thanks Dave, as the admin can't you simply move this discussion to the proper topic? I know this can be done on other forums I'm a member of because they also try to keep them organized. Should be a simple fix.
  23. I think what the buyer is referring to is the SVAP and the SVAP+ version that were out around that time. Obviously the SVAP+ is the top of the line version with everything and the SVAP was considered the entry level version. One just had more bells and whistles than the other but I dont know all the details of the differences. ADS-B in and out, class 1 mode S transponder, backup batteries for the panel, Garmin 796 etc. I would think your POH or checklist would state which model you own. I hope this was helpful and hope another owner of this year or even the 2014 or 2015 can elaborate a bit more for you as to the differences Wayne.
