  1. Bob Crusader16 that is a very generous gesture to donate back the GDL-39 3D I see two choices: 1) you can select, and please let us know who is the new SCFLIER GDL-39 3D "re-winner"... ...I can deliver the box with GDL-39 3D, battery, cables, antennas, etc to you and you can send it direct to the "re-winner" of your choice. or 2) I can attempt to determine via email who among our "participating" (at least 4 Total SCFLIER posts) SCFLIER forum members does NOT currently own a GARMIN GDL-39, and then I can use my "random number generator raffle winner selection process" to randomly pick the new "re-winner" out of that smaller ? subset of SCFLIERs. please let me know your choice thanks for your very generous "donate back" of the GDL-39 3D and accessories to SCFLIER ! Dave
  2. Izzy and Sierra Charlie: thanks for the kind words however, I believe the credit for the SCFLIER Forum growth is due to the awesome input from ALL our members who provide great, useful information to other CRUZ LSA owners and Pilots. I am especially pleased with the Forum membership growth "outside the USA", .....England, Australia, Ireland, Scotland, The Netherlands, ... more....since a LARGE number of the SportCruiser/PS-28 Cruiser aircraft fly in many other countries worldwide, not just the USA. We all benefit from the input and discussion from ALL our members ! as an example of the benefit of increased "World Wide" SportCruiser participation and discussion, there was a video posted recently here on SCFLIER of a very interesting SportCruiser based in the Netherlands (aircraft PH-NOS) with an in-flight adjustable propeller system. The Dutch Pilot has not "posted" any information on SCFLIER about the system, but the video led to other websites explaining how the propeller is adjustable in flight. While not legal to be installed in USA FAA regulated Light Sport Aircraft, this system IS legal and flying on SportCruisers in other countries. The discussion of benefits/tradeoffs/pros/cons of such a fascinating technology in the CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft benefits all SCFLIER Forum members - to me, more input from more members provides more opportunities for learning. Please Keep the postings and pictures and videos and INFORMATION about our fine Light Sport Aircraft coming ! Dave https://youtu.be/tSzo5LtxooM http://www.airmasterpropellers.com/sportcruiser
  3. The Current Active, Validated Members with Log-In Privileges on the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum is 268 SCFLIER Forum Members as of 6/28/2017. Our newest SCFLIER SportCruiser Members are located in: Tennessee, USA England the Netherlands Scotland (re-activated Membership) Minnesota, USA Florida, USA WELCOME ! looking forward to some great SCFLIER postings and pictures from a large world wide range of locations where our CRUZ SportCruiser LSAs are flown ! 4. WmInce Thanks much for pointing out the smaller SCFLIER Forum banner image "overlap" problem in an iPad operating in Landscape Mode. I duplicated the problem on an iPad in Landscape mode, and believe I have it fixed now. Please advise Thanks Dave
  5. FYI to all SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum Members I deleted the IPS SW version 4.X "original default choice" of the SCFLIER Theme Logo showing "IPS Community Suite" today. Now there are only two Member Selectable Theme Logos available: The SCFLIER Forum banner with a large picture of a new model CRUZ LSA flying in the Bravo Airspace near Dallas Love Field (this is the new DEFAULT Theme Logo). Use this Theme (or select it) if you love looking at an Awesome SportCruiser aircraft flying in some of the busiest airspace in the USA. The "Minimalist" SCFLIER Forum banner with a much Smaller picture of the same CRUZ LSA over Downtown Dallas. Select this Theme if you want a very small banner and CRUZ LSA Picture up at the top of every page. Enjoy your SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum Theme Logos. Soon, I would like to add three new choices for the SCFLIER Forum Theme Logo for Members living in the following three countries: Ireland Australia United Kingdom If any of our SCFLIER Forum Members from these three countries have images that they may want used in a third, fourth, and fifth Member selectable Theme Logo to appear at the top of all the SCFLIER Pages for their use, please send me your Ireland, Australia, or UK SportCruiser images to scflieradm@yahoo.com Thanks ! Dave SCFLIER Admin
  6. Available with the new IPS Software version 4.X, since late April 2017.... For those that may want to display a different "THEME" (Logo) up at the top of every page on the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum, here is how to do it. See pics below for where to click on the SCFLIER Forum page... After you log in with your "Display Name" and "Password", Look Down at the very bottom of the SCFLIER Forum page Find the "THEME" choice button in the center left of the bottom of the page Click the Down Arrow to the right of "Theme", and three choices (today) of Logo "Themes" come up available for you to select: The boring, default, "IPS Community Suite" Theme A large, SCFLIER Forum banner with a nice picture of a new SportCruiser flying over downtown Dallas, in the Bravo Airspace near KDAL Love Field A "Minimalist" SCFLIER Forum banner with a small picture of the SportCruiser in choice 2 above Once you have your choice selected with your mouse, CLICK on it, and the new "Theme" will be used on your SCFLIER Pages until you decide to change it That's It. Enjoy Dave
  7. A brief description and product history of the GARMIN GDL-39 family of portable (battery powered, or with a cable, aircraft powered) --GDL-39 and GDL-39 3D or aircraft powered only -- GDL-39 R "remote mount" ADSB IN Dual Band (978 MHz and 1090 MHz) Traffic and FIS-B Weather DataLink receivers: 1) Garmin product information on the "top of the line" GARMIN GDL-39 3D ADSB IN Receiver with built in AHRS Attitude Heading Reference System: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/539940 2) GDL-39 ADSB IN receiver product history The GDL-39 ADSB IN receiver was first introduced at Oshkosh in July of 2012 http://ipadpilotnews.com/2012/08/pilot-report-flying-with-the-garmin-gdl-39-ads-b-receiver/ 3) GDL-39 adds the AHRS "3D" sensors in summer of 2014 The GDL-39 3D was an upgrade portable model to the base GDL-39 model and the GDL-39 R Remote mount model. Oshkosh, July 2014 http://ipadpilotnews.com/2014/01/garmin-gdl-39-3d-adds-backup-attitude/ 4) GDL-39 ADSB IN receiver software update history: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5777 Comment and Opinion: The Garmin GDL-39 ADSB IN receiver combines a WAAS GPS, subscription-free ADS-B weather and dual band ADS-B traffic in a single unit, and with the top of the line GDL-39 3D, adds an Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) for Backup attitude information and input to synthetic vision (SVX) displays on the Garmin 796 and 660 GPS display maps as well as the Garmin Pilot iPad/Android and ForeFlight application. The Garmin GDL-39 is a reliable, well known, proven product, designed and built by GARMIN who also makes the CRUZ S-LSA GPS Map cockpit display units (396, 496, 696, 796) for our fine CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft. The GDL-39 and GDL-39 3D portable models can be powered by a rechargeable battery, or by aircraft power via the available power/data hard wire interface cable. The GDL-39 R is only powered by 10-32 volt DC aircraft power. The GDL-39 has a proven, simple way to interface with a Garmin portable GPS Map display either by an inexpensive hard wire power/data interface cable (purchased separately for the 396, 496, 696, 796, or 660), or in the case of the Aera 796 GPS and Aera 660 GPS, the data interface from GDL-39 to GPS Map display can be performed directly by wireless Bluetooth interface, or if desired, alternately using the hard wire power/data cable if purchased separately. It puzzles me why CSA Letters of Authorization and Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) documentation and installation instructions are NOT yet available for "hard wired interface use", installed in the CRUZ S-LSA aircraft, five years after this fine Garmin Data Link GDL-39 ADSB-IN receiver product was introduced. Especially for the Garmin 696 GPS Map, where the only data interface possible is with the hard wire cable, and portable battery powered GDL-39 use and data interface using wireless Bluetooth like the Garmin 796 and 660 is NOT possible (nor planned to be available) on the 696. There is no better way than to use a Garmin designed product to interface ADSB - IN Traffic and Weather datalink information to a Garmin GPS Map display. Proven. Reliable. Supportable. Available for Years. The GDL-39 ADSB IN Free Traffic and Weather receiver is easy to use, simple to install, and provides --directly on the center of the CRUZ cockpit panel on the GPS Map display --impressive SAFETY benefits to Pilots for safe separation from other airborne targets and useful information about potentially serious weather risks. D
  8. Some ADSB-IN Traffic examples, using a Garmin GDL-39 R (Remote mount), identical in data product features to the portable GDL-39 3D, but without the AHRS or portable battery powered operation. The ADSB-IN Datalink information was displayed using a hard wired connection from the GDL-39R to a Garmin 696 GPS Map installed in an Experimental E-LSA CRUZ. A CSA Letter of Authorization or documentation of the hard wire hookup to the 696 and installation instructions for the GDL-39R and external ADSB IN antenna (perhaps included in a future update to the CSA CRUZ IPC) would be required to install and operate this equipment setup in a factory CRUZ S-LSA. An external belly mount ADSB IN antenna improved range performance over the stock "stubby" portable GDL-39 ADSB IN antenna and was able to receive FIS-B Weather data from DFW's ADSB Radio towers - about 10-12 miles away, while on the ground. Airborne Traffic targets were received in "Air to Air" (actually Air to "on the Ground") mode, as the subject aircraft was not airborne, nor was it transmitting any ADSB OUT position data while sitting parked, engine off, in the Non-Movement area. GDL-39R ADSB DataLink information displayed on the Garmin 696 include simultaneous landing and takeoff at DFW airport (multiple runways) DFW Takeoff and Landing Traffic at DFW and one aircraft taking off at KDAL Love Field SportCruiser landing at KADS, exiting the runway to the taxiway Alpha (note color change of aircraft symbol when on the ground) SportCruiser TRAFFIC Alert near the parking area Unrestricted 696 "TRF" dedicated Traffic page on the 696 showing many airborne targets FIS-B WX transmitted active permanent TFR at ex President "W"'s house south of Addison The Garmin GDL DataLink Information page, showing specific time delays for various FIS-B Weather products The Garmin GDL DataLink ADSB Ground Stations being used to generate data to display on the 696 Map. Very useful Datalink of USA FAA ADSB IN Information and Airborne Traffic Data from the Garmin GDL-39 receiver, hard wired to the Garmin 696 Map unit for display in the center of the CRUZ Panel. D
  9. All good comments above. Agree. And, since I have already converted from a Special factory built S-LSA CRUZ to a USA FAA Experimental E-LSA, please forgive me for discussing simple, elegant, effective, proven ways to improve the SportCruiser S-LSA line of aircraft that CSA could issue individual tail number specific Letters of Authorization for installation of GARMIN GDL-39 ADSB-IN receivers in a CRUZ S-LSA, and/or that CSA could include the GARMIN GDL-39 line of ADS-B IN receivers in their "manufacturer's Instruction for S-LSA installation", AKA documenting allowed use of INSTALLED GARMIN GDL-39 ADSB IN receivers with external ADSB IN belly antennas and hard wired to 396/496/696/796 GARMIN GPS map displays in the CSA CRUZ S-LSA IPC Illustrated Parts Catalog. Portable use of battery powered, not installed hard wired, GDL-39 ADSB IN receivers operating on a CRUZ S-LSA ? YES. HardWired use of GDL-39 ADSB IN receivers with installed external antennas in a CRUZ S-LSA ? NOT ALLOWED Without a CSA S-LSA LOA or IPC documentation. I've gotten so used to implementing "Minor" but very effective, existing, proven, readily available Garmin and Dynon hardware/software improvements to our Experimental E-LSA CRUZ that I did not add a disclaimer in the post directly above about "needing a CSA S-LSA LOA for installation of XYZ improvement to production CRUZ S-LSA aircraft operating in the USA.....". But, the "GDL-39 3D raffle" instructions in another SCFLIER post DO include a note stating "ADSB IN Equipment Installation and Compliance with the USA FAA (or your country’s regulating authority) and LightSportAircraft S-LSA and E-LSA rules and regulations are the responsibility of the winner." Today, the hardwired GDL-39 3D ADSB IN receiver (and External GPS & ADS-B IN antennas) and the way cool GARMIN Aera 660 GPS Map display are NOT USA FAA Legal (...today...) to use INSTALLED, hard wired interfaced in a CRUZ S-LSA without a CSA Letter of Authorization and/or CSA IPC installation documentation. In a USA E-LSA (S-LSA CRUZ converted to an Experimental E-LSA), all of the "raffle items" (GDL-39 3D powered by aircraft +12V DC wiring, hard wired to a Garmin GPS Map and operating with two external antennas) and also the Aera 660 for those CRUZ E-LSA owners currently with a 396 or 496, would of course be legal to install in an E-LSA without an LOA from CSA, assuming that the proper installation documentation was recorded in the aircraft logs by the E-LSA owner. However, note that in some current production S-LSA CRUZ aircraft, for example a later model CRUZ S-LSA with a 796 Garmin GPS Map display, the portable (battery powered) GDL-39 3D can effectively interface wirelessly to the 796 for display of ADS-B IN Traffic and Weather right there on the 796 GPS Map display, and also the "3D" backup AHRS feature of a GDL-39 3D portable battery powered unit will function on a 796 without any "hard wires" attached to the GDL-39 required. The (S-LSA CSA LOA required for use) external ADSB IN belly mount antenna provides benefits in low altitude or remote, mountainous area situations where the USA FAA ADSB ground radio towers are more difficult to be "seen" and where greater ADSB IN antenna reception performance is needed, but the GDL-39 3D will work in most "normal altitude" flatlander scenarios just fine at medium to high altitude receiving data link traffic and weather from USA FAA ground radio towers using only its internal GPS antenna and stubby (portable) ADSB IN antenna. However, even in "flat" terrain areas, the external ADSB-IN antenna provides performance advantages over the stubby (portable) stock GDL-39 ADSB IN antenna. For example, with our GDL-39 R using an external RAMI AV-74 ADSB IN belly mount antenna, we can receive and display on our Garmin 696 Map display ADSB IN datalink FIS-B Weather information ON THE GROUND, !!!, when parked 10 Nmiles away from the DFW ADSB FAA radio towers. This long range reception of ADSB IN weather data was not possible testing a GDL-39 with only the portable stubby ADSB IN Antenna when pre-flighting equipment On the Ground. The larger metal aircraft belly ground plane for the external RAMI AV-74 antenna improves antenna performance, as well as no metal structure inbetween the ADSB IN external antenna and the FAA radio towers in flight.. Having an "all Garmin" ADS-B OUT and IN solution provides advantages, especially in display of the ADSB IN Traffic on a Garmin GPS Map. With Garmin ADSB IN Traffic data, select Garmin GPS display Maps provides the Traffic "Target Trend" feature, a more sophisticated prediction of where an airborne traffic target WILL be in 5 minutes/2 minutes/1 minute/30 seconds (time outlook depends on Traffic display range selected), and the Target Trend green arrow symbols are displayed right there on select Garmin GPS Map cockpit panel screens. Also, the "Unrestricted", "Normal", "Below", and "Above" Traffic filtering choices are available on select Garmin GPS Map displays when interfaced with a Garmin GDL-39. Of course having ADS-B OUT operating on one's aircraft "triggers" the USA FAA Ground stations to provide ALL airborne traffic in the +- 3500 ft altitude, 30 Nmile "hockey puck" that follows YOUR aircraft, assuming that the aircraft is in range of the FAA ADSB ground radio towers. And ALL the Garmin GDL-39 units (GDL-39 "base", GDL-39 R --Remote mount, and GDL-39 3D with AHRS) are Dual Band Traffic receivers (both 978 Mhz and 1090 Mhz), an advantage over early Navworx UAT 978 Mhz only ADSB IN Traffic receivers and also early model SkyView single band (978 Mhz Only) ADSB IN traffic receivers, especially when out of range of the FAA ADSB ground radio towers or flying "too low" or blocked by terrain and the ADSB-R Rebroadcast of 1090 Mhz targets can NOT be received on the 978 Mhz UAT frequency, EVEN IF your aircraft is compliant and PARTICIPATING with a USA FAA approved ADSB OUT transceiver. Finally, using the GDL-39 3D unit as a portable battery powered ADSB IN receiver, without hard wiring to your (for example) 696 GPS Map display still can provide useful ADSB IN Traffic and Weather to your portable iPad or Android device, running Garmin Pilot, or also the ForeFlight application. But especially with a 696 Garmin GPS Map display, common on MANY of the Non-SkyView equipped SportCruisers and PiperSports with Garmin 696 Map displays, hard wiring the GDL-39 to the 696 is the only way to get the full benefits of free GDL-39 ADSB IN Traffic and Weather displayed right there on the GARMIN 696 Cockpit Display Map. It is anyone's guess what CSA may announce as their preferred ADSB OUT (and In ??) approved solution(s) for older Non-SkyView equipped CRUZ S-LSAs. SkyView equipped CRUZ S-LSA can easily upgrade to "2020" ADSB OUT and Dual Band Traffic ADSB IN with very economical SkyView upgrades announced recently and flying today in the latest SportCruisers. Awesome. For the non-SkyView equipped CRUZ aircraft, my opinion is that an "all Garmin" ADSB OUT and IN solution, for example using a Garmin GTX335 ADSB OUT "all in one" transponder with internal WAAS GPS to fulfill the ADSB OUT USA FAA Mandate would be a great choice coupled with a (proven for many years) GARMIN GDL-39 ADSB IN Receiver (base model, Remote, or 3D) hard wired to any of the early CRUZ S-LSA Garmin GPS Map units (396/496 Traffic only, and 696 Full Traffic and Weather) to provide an awesome ADSB OUT and IN CRUZ S-LSA Upgrade path. Who knows what CSA has in their plans for ADSB Out and IN LOA's or CSA IPC documentation for the Non-SkyView USA CRUZ S-LSAs. Perhaps CSA will only supply an ADSB OUT USA solution ?. But an ADSB OUT only solution misses entirely the HUGE safety advantages of free ADSB IN Traffic and Weather displayed on the cockpit panel GPS Map display. Letters of Authorization from CSA seem to be a very rare thing. Without an S-LSA LOA, going Experimental E-LSA opens up a world of choices, including INSTALLING in the PANEL the new portable Garmin GPS Map Display device called the Aera 660, an excellent choice, as Shawn and others have noted, the Aera 660 GPS Map unit will fit just fine in the older "Legacy" CZAW SportCruisers in place of a 396 or 496 in the smaller vertical dash height. And the Aera 660 will interface wirelessly to a GDL-39, no Hard (installed) Wiring required. The Aera 660 and GDL-39 coupled with a suitable ADSB OUT unit could be an Awesome CSA approved ? TBD ? CRUZ S-LSA ADSB OUT and IN solution. especially for the Legacy CZAW SportCruisers. For today, in an S-LSA CRUZ, the "GDL-39 3D ADSB IN / AHRS Raffle Unit" must remain battery powered, PORTABLE (without external antennas or hard -installed - wiring to a Garmin GPS map) -----in the current state of operating CSA S-LSA in the USA FAA Regulated S-LSA world. And, if the Raffle Winner's aircraft remains S-LSA, and CSA does not provide an LOA for the "non portable" INSTALLED, WIRED use of a Garmin GDL-39 ADSB IN solution, the raffle winner could always SELL the 2 External Antennas and wiring/adapters and operate the GDL-39 portable -- battery powered -- the GDL-39 3D still has awesome capabilities in the portable configuration... but wow what a capability the proven GARMIN GDL-39 ADSB IN receiver can provide to the SportCruiser/PiperSport Light Sport Aircraft when INSTALLED, fully integrated with an installed Garmin GPS Map Cockpit display (and Garmin Radio, and Dynon AutoPilot, ....and.....) coupled with an ADSB OUT USA FAA compliant solution. The GARMIN GDL-39 line of ADSB IN receivers are not new. They have been in use with GARMIN GPS Map displays for years on other aircraft.... Dave
  10. The Current Active, Validated Members with Log-In Privileges on the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum is 251 Members as of May 14, 2017. 11. To Existing SCFLIER Forum members and potential New Members to the SCFLIER Forum with our new IPS "4.X" Software upgrade, most all of our SCFLIER Forum is now working and fully operational. Lots of great improvements and awesome features. However, the "automatic link" of folks "Contacting the Forum" is NOT currently sending me, the Admin, any messages on my SCFLIER Forum email address scflieradm@yahoo.com The problem appears to be a rejection from the yahoo folks for third party email forwarding from our SCFLIER Forum. So, if you think that you have "Contacted The Forum" OnLine, in actuality, this feature may not be working, and I may NOT have received any emails from potential new member requests. a simpler, better way to get a personal message to me for Potential New SCFLIER Forum Members, is to email me directly (from your email account) to my Admin Address of scflieradm@yahoo.com Thanks Dave SCFLIER Admin

  14. Here is some info from our friends at IPS who developed the new software we are now using the IPS developers suggest: "On the forum index, if you click the last topic it will bring you to the last unread post. In forum view, if you click the dot next to the topic title it will bring you to the last unread post. In activity streams, it should automatically bring you to the last read post. Unfortunately, the posts themselves cannot be re-ordered to last unread being first." however, I (your friendly admin)will request that change be made to the software via ADMIN feedback keep the questions and ideas coming -lots of new features to learn how to use best.... Dave
  15. WmInce 1) Custom Streams are a feature that allows a member to filter displayed content based on their preferences. On the front end, the nav bar tab titled "Activity" -> My activity Streams shows any custom Stream a Member may have created, as well as offers the option to create a new one. 2) Related to the above, and your question, to Delete a "Custom Stream" one would need to open that Custom Stream, then at the top, to the right of the Stream title, is a red trashcan icon. Click that trashcan icon to delete the custom Stream let me know if that works for you Dave
  16. Attention to all SCFLIER Forum Members our Website Software - provided by a company that handles all the website structure, posting major topic outlines, user interactions, responses to internet SCFLIER login and Posting Updates, Uploads, etc. will be updated from a no longer supported software version "3.X" to the latest, supportable website software "4.X" TOMORROW Wednesday 4/26/2017. The new Website will have a slightly different look and feel. Having supportable website baseline SW is important to maintaining the security and reliable operation of the SCFLIER Forum. In the new "4.X" Software, there will no longer be a distinction between "User Names" and "Display Names". These two data fields will be merged into one name for each user. User Names are what you use to LogIn with - your Login ID. Display Names are usually, for most of our members, identical to your Login ID (User Name), but some SCFLIER Forum Members have chosen to have a different, unique "Display Name" next to their Avatar on the screen for all to see. Having a different UserName and DisplayName is no longer possible in the new "4.X" Software. In order to maintain the ability for all to still Log In and have access to SCFLIER after the SW Update, we will be carrying forward AS IS everyone's (Log In) "User Name". Your Password also carries forward AS IS. After the update, we can handle the "Display Name" differences for the few SCFLIER members that want to change their ID on a case by case basis. If you have a different "Display Name" than User Name now, it would be good for those very few SCFLIER Members in that situation to remember BOTH their Display Name and User Name for future potential updates if needed by your friendly Admin. Regards D
  17. The SCFLIER Forum Website folks provide me, the Admin, with fascinating (?) statistical data on The Number of SCFLIERs with Greater than "X" Number of total posts The Total Number of Posts in the "Top 1 to 5", "Top 5-10", "Top 20" .... categories of our regular Posting Members See pics below for the data on a graph. Today, we have 249 Total SCFLIER Members....Awesome ! 86 of our Members have had at least one post (35% of the 249) 47 of our Members have had at least four posts (19% of the 249) 163 of our Members had Zero Posts (65% of the 249) and, looking at our "Top 20 Posting Members", these Members posted 3723 (!) total items on our Forum over the last ~ 3 years, out of a total of over 4100 posts. There have been over 75 new Members added in the last year, many in the USA, and also several new members from outside the USA, including Australia, Ireland, and England. Our "Top 20 Posting Members" produced over 90% of the total posts. Great job everyone ! Lots of outstanding information on the CSA CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft for all our members ! D
  18. as we approach 250 ! total worldwide SCFLIER Forum members, I would like to welcome all of our new members and encourage any and all New Members to use this thread as a starting point to post pictures of your aircraft, your home base airport, and any flying videos or pictures that you may have available for sharing. Our most recent SCFLIER Forum member, Tim, is based in England, about 20 miles north of London, at the famous North Weald Airfield. below is some information, pictures, and awesome videos that Tim provided to me for posting on SCFLIER Welcome Tim to the SCFLIER Forum ! Dave From Tim, our newest SCFLIER Forum member, located in England just north of London. “My home base, North Weald Airfield, NWA (ICAO Ref:- EGSX) - is about 20 miles north of London, and is one of the oldest airfields in the UK. It opened in 1916 as an RFC (Royal Flying Corps) fighter station during the first World War, only 13 years after the Wright Brothers made the World's first powered flight, to help combat the German Zeppelin raids on London. The RFC become the RAF in 1918 towards the end of World War I by merging the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. During World War Two, NWA was a front line RAF fighter station, and many US pilots joined the RAF to gain "dog fight" experience long before the USA entered the war. A lot of information is on-line but a useful link here:- http://www.northwealdairfield.org/History/history.html North Weald's finest hour came in the summer of 1940, when it served as a frontline airfield in the Battle of Britain. During the Second World War, North Weald played host to Squadrons made up of many foreign nationals, including Americans, Czechs, Poles and also Norwegians, to which the airfield and village maintain special links to this day. Hurricanes, Spitfires and Blenheims were the most common types to be seen at North Weald. Some may be able to identify the airfield from WWII movies… the NWA Control Tower has “Listed” status, which means it’s of historic or architectural significance and effectively has a building preservation order on it. NWA has been featured as a backdrop in various WWII films · Battle of Britain (1968) · Memphis Belle (1990) · Band of Brothers (2001)” Four fun Videos from Tim https://vimeo.com/97911676 https://vimeo.com/23116613 https://vimeo.com/18330816 https://vimeo.com/23234078 And a picture from the UK Civil Aviation Authority CAA website showing Tim’s aircraft near landing https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/applicationmodules/ginfo/ginfo_photo.aspx?regmark=G-CGIL&imgname=G-CGIL002&imgtype=JPG See below for more pictures at North Weald Airfield, including a flyby of famous WWII British and USA Fighter Aircraft “Two Eagle Squadrons of American RAF volunteers – 71 and 121 – were based at North Weald during 1941, so it was fitting that a special formation of four aircraft representing these squadrons included the Airfield in a commemorative flypast over their former bases around the east of England… The formation, which started out at Duxford and had the callsign ‘Eagle Squadron’, was led by a Hawker Hurricane in 601 (County of London) Squadron markings, representing the aircraft flown by the American volunteer Billy Fiske during the Battle of Britain. The second aircraft was a Spitfire painted in Bill Dunn’s colours. He was the first US pilot to become an ace while he was based at North Weald with 71 (Eagle) Squadron in August 1941. They were accompanied by a P-47G Thunderbolt ‘Snafu’ and P-51C Mustang ‘Princess Elizabeth,’ representing the later units of the US Eighth Air Force, which flew from airfields in Essex and East Anglia escorting the B-17 and B-24 bombers as their ‘Little Friends’.” Welcome Tim to the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum, and we are looking forward to more pictures from All our new members !
  19. To all SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum members next Wednesday, 4/26/17 is "SCFLIER Forum software upgrade day" From the old, no longer supported "3.X" website software To the new, supportable "4.X" website software. I have already received my personal ADMIN offsite BACKUP of all SCFLIER Forum postings, images, uploads, links, etc. as of today's date. I have been told that the Website support company will do everything they can to convert all of our SCFLIER material over to the new "4.X" software baseline next Wednesday 4/26/17. Again, if anyone has priceless personal data that is only available to them on the SCFLIER Forum, they should take steps to generate a personal backup of this material by the end of this week. I have been informed that the WEBSITE SOFTWARE UPDATE is "quick and easy" but having worked software for over 30 years, I do expect some potential Forum downtime next Wednesday. Looking forward to new features with the "4.X" software website product! More details will be provided as they are available... D
  20. We have now reached 240 Members on the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum ! Welcome to ALL our new SCFLIER Forum MEMBERS, some located here in the USA as well as also the UK and Ireland ! We look forward to postings and pictures and links to interesting topics related to owning and flying the SportCruiser/PS-28/PiperSport family of Light Sport Aircraft ! See the above posts in this "Admin" thread for some information applicable to new members and our "rules of the road" re RESPECTING everyone's different and varied and interesting OPINIONS about flying and owning the SportCruiser. Our goal on SCFLIER is to provide useful, accurate, interesting, and fun information about the SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 CRUZ aircraft, and the best way to provide more information on a wide variety of topics related to the fine CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft is for ALL of our members to participate regularly, and for those Members with experiences in a particular area related to the CRUZ aircraft to offer their knowledge and share ideas with other CRUZ owners and Pilots. We all learn from sharing information. 1) A note on SPAM email detecting systems. There are several more SCFLIER potential new Members now in the SCFLIER New Member "Validating" process. As ADMIN of the SportCruiser SCFLIER Forum, I am diligent on establishing "two way communication" with all the new Members, and learning some about each new member - mainly just to make sure they are "real people" and not an Internet Robot Computer SPAM generating machine, so that we don't get SPAMMED with a bunch of information from say, a Vendor of Parts for the Rotax engine, or a Vendor of New Gizmos for your iPad. My belief is that the SCFLIER Forum should be an open forum for those currently INVOLVED in FLYING and OWNING and MAINTAINING a SportCruiser/PS-28/PiperSport aircraft, or folks interested in perhaps someday BUYING a SportCruiser/PS-28/PiperSport aircraft, and not a place where the Members get inundated with "cool Airplane stuff to buy". I also don't want our members to be placed on an Internet Robot Generated Email Address list to receive even more SPAM in their email accounts. For that reason, when a new Member asks to join our Forum, I send the new Member request person an email, from scflieradm@yahoo.com and ask a few questions - "Do they Own a SportCruiser/PS-28, where do they fly out of, are they a Pilot, ....." to make sure the potential new Member is not a ROBOT SPAM COMPUTER, and that the potential new Member is interesting in learning about or sharing information about their CRUZ LSA aircraft flying / owning experiences. There are no "wrong" answers to my email "Two Way Communication" to potential New Members. And, I RESPECT every Member's Privacy, and NEVER post any information sent back to me from the New Member in this simple "real person" email "SCFLIER two way communication verification" process. Also, note that there is a question for new Members on the Visual Flight Rules squawk code. I learned that this code is different in the UK, but the point of the question is the same - a new Member should be familiar with this. The USA squawk code is what is referred to in the question. 2) A note on the SCFLIER Forum Security - we are an open forum available to viewing by ANYONE/ANYWHERE with Internet Access and a search engine like Google. Non-Members just "scanning the internet" can not POST anything on the Forum, but ANYONE/ANYWHERE can READ your text replies and new topic postings on the SCFLIER Forum. The "Pictures" that you may post on SCFLIER can NOT be seen or accessed by a Non Member. An SCFLIER validated Membership with a Log-On Password is required to VIEW posted Pictures. But, other than the SCFLIER Posted images, just like anything on email or the Internet, if you post on SCFLIER a text reply or new topic, it can be read by ANYONE/ANYWHERE on the internet. The advantage is that we gain a lot of new Members who use Google to find info on Topic XYZ about the SportCruiser. Once they find there is information out there on SCFLIER about, for example, SportCruiser canopy issues, they send a request to join the forum. 3) A Note on SPAM controls on your personal internet email accounts. If your email REJECTS all email that is not "already included in your Email Address book of friends and known contacts", then any message sent to a potential NEW MEMBER from the SCFLIER Forum Admin (me) from scflieradm@yahoo.com may be rejected by your SPAM checker. Some advanced SPAM Checkers ask the "unknown email address person" to identify themselves with a short text field, (See Pic below), and I do so, which has allowed me to verify that the potential new Member is NOT a Computer Robot SPAM agent itself. And these new members get "validated" quickly - usually within a day or so. just letting potential new SCFLIER Forum members know that your SPAM checker may prevent a person from joining SCFLIER. 4) A note on Privacy- Many SCFLIER Members are "just fine" with revealing lots of personal information on the SCFLIER Forum. That is OK, and certainly Up to The Individual Member if he/she wants to do so. However, it is NOT OK to reveal personal information about another Member, such as their address, phone number, family members names, etc., if these Members do NOT want that information "posted on the internet for all to see" So, especially for folks in the USA, where the FAA has a "tail number look up system" available on the web, be aware that posting your aircraft's tail number (or another person's tail number) does reveal the aircraft Owner's Name, Address, and Co-Owners name, etc., available to ANYONE / ANYWHERE on the USA FAA tail number look up website. Again, it is UP TO THE MEMBER how much personal information they may reveal, or NOT. My policy as the ADMIN is to never reveal ANY personal information about a SCFLIER Forum member unless I get prior approval from them, or unless the Member has already posted said information "out there on the internet" on our SCFLIER Forum. 5) Finally, of course you do NOT have to be a Pilot or a SportCruiser/PS-28/PiperSport Aircraft Owner to join the SCFLIER Forum. Most Members ARE Pilots, of course, and a high percentage OWN a CRUZ Type LSA, but many are NOT licensed Pilots and are NOT aircraft owners, and that is OK ! Lots of great info is available from Folks interested in the SportCruiser, RV-12 Owners, Bonanza Owners, Aviation Addicts, Student Pilots, Engineers, "friends" of the SportCruiser family, etc., that don't currently own a SportCruiser, or are not a licensed Pilot. Great !!! Several of our new SCFLIER Forum members are RV-12 LSA Owners/Pilots for example, because they use the same awesome Rotax 912ULS engine and the same sometimes troublesome Ducati Rectifier/Regulator to provide "12 VDC" to their avionics electrical system. And the RV-12 Owners/Pilots joined to learn more about our SportCruiser troubles with the Ducati rectifier/regulator. Just one example. regardless of your interest in the SportCruiser family of aircraft, enjoy the SCFLIER Forum. The Forum is more fun if you participate, but "lurking" in the background and just reading other folks posts and looking at images posted is OK too. I can be contacted anytime with suggestions on ways to improve the SCFLIER Forum experience at scflieradm@yahoo.com D
  21. WELCOME to the SportCruiser SCFLIER Forum to our TWELVE ! new additional members that have joined since the 15th of January ! We now have 227 total SCFLIER Forum members. Awesome ! Here's to our 12 new Members in the last two weeks from the USA, Ireland, and the United Kingdom ! ALL the SCFLIER Forum members benefit from reading other Members forum posts and especially pictures about flying, maintaining, and owning a SportCruiser/ PiperSport / PS-28 light sport aircraft. Please look through our many topic areas and if "your" topic is already listed, just "reply to" the existing topic and add on to the "string of posts" with your comments and pictures. If you can't find "your" topic already discussed, consider a spot in our existing outline of topics like "General Avionics Discussion", "Flying Techniqies" "Software Updates", "ROTAX engine", ..., many more..., and "Start New Topic" inside that outline area, Or, if your topic doesn't fit in any of the existing Forum outline areas, one might "start a new topic" in the "Random Thoughts" area. Only a couple of "rules": 1) While "Pilots" worldwide are generally a strong willed, independent bunch, please don't be disrespectful to other folks whose opinion you may not agree with. It is perfectly fine to disagree ( in a respectful way), and the interchange of Differing ideas often leads to a new understanding of the topic, but FLAMING or RUDE DISRESPECTFUL comments would turn our very fun, interesting, friendly forum into a place where only "Forum Trolls" would enjoy the interchange. 2) Also, while some forum members are perfectly fine with revealing lots of personal information, including their full name and address, family details, etc., on a public forum that can be accessed and read by ANYONE worldwide with Google, the "rule" is to respect other folks varying desires for privacy. Revealing detailed personal information about another member (unless already agreed to ahead of time by the other Member) is NOT a good idea. It is always up to the individual Forum members how much or how little that they may want to reveal and "post" about their personal life on this "public accessible" forum. Thanks for listening to your friendly admin and WELCOME to our 12 New SCFLIER Forum Members ! I can be reached at the "Admin/Owner" email of Scflieradm@yahoo.com with any comments on how to IMPROVE the SCFLIER Forum experience. ENJOY Dave
  22. Welcome to the MANY new members joining our SCFLIER SportCruiser forum in the past few weeks. We now have Over 220 ! Total members ! To date in the month of January 2017 we have already added 12 new SCFLIER members ! Looking forward to some interesting new posts, pictures, and responses to existing posts about our very fine SportCruiser, PiperSport, PS-28 family of Light Sport Aircraft ! SCFLIER members based in the USA are especially interested to hear from our many new SCFLIER members who are based in the United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland), and also Australia, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. I'll bet many of our USA SCFLIER members did not know that the Visual Flying Rules transponder code is 7000 in the U.K. . Thanks for a new member from the U.K. for letting me know that in an email. In the USA, our transponder code for that type of flying is 1200... Have fun with the forum to all the new members - the more you post, the more we all learn about our fine little Light Sport Airplane ! The only rule is - keep topics related about flying, maintaining, upgrading, etc. of the SportCruiser airplane, and RESPECT other folks differing opinions. It is perfectly fine (and often valuable) to disagree with another SCFLIERs opinion on a topic, but we want to keep it friendly, and RESPECTing different opinions seems key to a fun, enjoyable forum. Regards Dave Your friendly ADMIN/OWNER of the SCFLIER forum
  23. As the ADMIN of the SCFLIER Sport Cruiser Forum, I would like to be the first to welcome one of our newest SCFLIER Forum members, Thomas J. Schrade, the CEO of Aviation Trading USA, Inc., and Cruiser Aircraft, Inc., the new Czech Sport Aircraft (CSA) USA SportCruiser Importer to the USA and also North, South, and Central America ! as SCFLIER Forum member "DeltaFox" noted earlier here on SCFLIER, CSA has provided the following notice on their website page: "Czech Sport Aircraft a.s. is proud to announce our new USA import, assembly and certification company 'Cruiser Aircraft, Inc.' which will be based in North Perry and Sebastian Florida. This facility will be the exclusive import, assembly and service center serving the United States, North, South and Central America." I believe that all SCFLIER Forum members will be interested to hear news from Czech Sport Aircraft via Cruiser Aircraft, Inc. in Florida,USA, about the fine SportCruiser line of Light Sport Aircraft. looking forward to improved communication from the Czech Republic CSA LSA factory to USA based CSA SportCruiser and PiperSport aircraft owners, and especially to our "Legacy" Czech Aircraft Works (CAW) SportCruiser owners ! D
  24. Welcome to all the new Members on the SCFLIER SportCruiser Forum ! We recently passed 210 total active members, and the SCFLIER Membership count grows every week. We have a very active core of SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 CRUZ aircraft owners and Pilots who participate on the SCFLIER Forum regularly. Our goal is to provide useful, accurate, interesting, and fun information about the SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 CRUZ aircraft, and the best way to provide more information on a wide variety of topics related to the fine CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft is for all of our members to participate regularly, and for those with experiences in a particular area related to the CRUZ aircraft to offer their knowledge and share ideas with other CRUZ owners and Pilots. We all learn from sharing information. Our members pride themselves in Respecting each other's opinions and detail ideas about the aircraft, and while it is OK to Disagree with an opinion one member may have on a particular topic, we all take great care to value input from everyone, and NO FLAMING or Disrespectful comments about other folk's opinions are tolerated. All topics related to the CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft are "fair game". The only thing I ask is that new Forum Members take some time to scan the existing Forum topic areas, and place their postings in an area of the "Forum Outline" related to the idea they are sharing. If you don't find "your" topic already discussed on the Forum, just pick one of the main "Outline" areas, and "Start A New Topic" with your comments and pictures for review by other Forum Members under that main outline topic area. So, if you are a new member just learning about a CRUZ aircraft that you have recently purchased, a Sport Pilot, a Private Pilot or an ATP Pilot with many tens of thousands of hours flying the world's most advanced airliner aircraft, or a Military Pilot experienced in Air to Air or Air to Ground Combat, flying Super Sonic, or adept at landing on an aircraft carrier, an experienced A&P Mechanic or LSRM knowledgeable about the CRUZ aircraft or Rotax engine, a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) teaching student Pilots how to fly the SportCruiser, an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) giving check rides on a SportCruiser and authorizing new Pilot "tickets" to learn more, an FAA Designated Airworthiness Representative (DAR), a recent "discovery flight" CRUZ flier, if you fly your CRUZ aircraft out of a Tower Controlled Airport with a 9202 ft long 150 ft wide paved runway or fly out of a short narrow backcountry grass private air strip, or a Student Pilot with "out of the box new ideas" or just wanting to learn more about the SportCruiser family of aircraft, or some combination of the above, and we have ALL of those CRUZ Enthusiast Categories reading and on the SCFLIER Forum, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU ! So whichever category(s) of CRUZ enthusiast you may "fit" into, please participate on topics that you may see on SCFLIER, or ask questions on areas that you may want to learn more about, or add new topics in your expertise area that may be of interest to other CRUZ LSA enthusiasts!!! We welcome input from everyone and we all LOVE FLYING the CRUZ type LSA ! While many of the SCFLIER Forum members are based in the United States, we also have a growing number of members in Europe, Australia, and many other countries outside the USA. I know that many of our USA CRUZ Pilots who fly in the USA and are regulated by the FAA would LOVE to hear about experiences from Pilots who fly in England, France, Australia, Switzerland, Czech Republic ...., and to learn about how your country's flying regulatory agency may differ from what we experience in the USA with the FAA flying our CRUZ Light Sport Aircraft. Looking forward to more topics and more pictures of your CRUZ LSA flying experiences ! Dave SCFLIER Admin PS - for those folks just now signing up to JOIN the SCFLIER Membership, the SCFLIER membership activation process involves a quick email communication exchange between yourself and me, the SCFLIER ADMIN. So if you get an email from SCFLIERADM@Yahoo.com, it is not SPAM, it is something worth reading to get your new SCFLIER Forum membership activated !
