Charlie Lima posted in another thread -

    Hello everyone

I spoke to Cruiser today concerning a tow bar replacement, and requested information on the LOA's issue.  I am detailing what I was told, June 04, 2018 AM/EST ?

1):   Do not request LOA's.  They will not be issued.  It does not matter if you are pre-bankruptcy, ( 2007, 2008 & 2009 if I understand the dates correctly), or post bankruptcy and new management, ( 2010 and after ).

A note for all current and future owners of the SportCruiser....CSA will not issue any LOA's. Yes, I know that they were issued in the past as I've seen original documentation proving so under previous management but, current management does not feel that issuing LOA's is something they should have to do....I'm guessing as to the reason as I fought long and hard on this topic, since my very first conversation with Lukas back in September 2017.

A simple request for confirmation and explanation from Cruiser Aircraft:

    1. Question: Are the statements quoted above on “No CSA Letters of Authorization”  allowed  in the future for all SportCruiser (and PiperSport)  S-LSA aircraft manufactured by BOTH Czech Aircraft Works (CZAW, 2006-2009 SportCruisers) and Czech Sport Aircraft (CSA, 2010 - present PiperSport and SportCruisers) accurate statements of the Czech Sport Aircraft company philosophy, future plans,  and business strategy ?
    2. In the FAA Regulated USA Airspace, Safety Enhancing ADS-B OUT equipment is REQUIRED 1/1/2020 to fly in certain ADS-B OUT “Rule” airspace.  For Non SKYVIEW Equipped  “Legacy” CZAW SportCruiser S-LSA aircraft, especially  with the smaller vertical dash height, and all Non SKYVIEW equipped CRUZ S-LSA aircraft, without a CSA Letter Of Authorization (or a CSA Service Bulletin), equipping a CZAW/CSA  factory built  S-LSA with FAA Required ADS-B OUT Safety Enhancing  equipment becomes illegal in the USA, forcing the aircraft owner to convert from S-LSA to Experimental E-LSA in order to comply with the USA  FAA ADS-B OUT Safety Requirement.  Question: Is converting from S-LSA to Experimental E-LSA the Czech Sport Aircraft / Cruiser Aircraft recommended approach for these CRUZ S-LSA aircraft owners to maintain the ability to legally fly in FAA ADS-B OUT  “Rule” airspace in the USA after 12/31/2019  ?
    3. Question: Does the CSA Company Strategy Of  “No Letters of Authorization” also mean “No Service Bulletins” are allowed or planned by CSA for S-LSA CRUZ Non-SkyView equipped SportCruiser / PiperSport aircraft compliance with the USA FAA ADS-B OUT Safety Enhancing Requirement ?
    4. Question: In the future, if the USA FAA requires installation of an ADDITIONAL  safety enhancing aircraft modification, for example, installation of proven Dynon Angle of Attack (AOA) sensing equipment to interface with existing SportCruiser Dynon SkyView or SportCruiser Dynon D100 installed Avionics equipment hardware & software, is it Czech Sport Aircraft’s business plan and strategy to refuse issuance of aircraft Tail Number specific S-LSA Letter of Authorizations or SportCruiser/PiperSport USA S-LSA aircraft fleet wide Service Bulletins to comply with a future FAA required Safety Enhancing upgrade (in this example AOA Sensing & Display) for their CZAW/CSA S-LSA CRUZ aircraft ?  While “today’s topic” of ADS-B OUT Compliance only affects USA aircraft flying in ADS-B OUT “Rule” airspace (even though this airspace is, in fact, where many current USA SportCruiser and PiperSport S-LSA aircraft owners are based today and fly daily), a  potential new future FAA safety requirement (for example, Angle of Attack sensing & display) and a potential response of the CRUZ S-LSA Czech Sport Aircraft manufacturer again  refusing issuance of aircraft Tail Number specific Letters of Authorization or CRUZ Fleet Wide Service Bulletins on any possible FUTURE USA FAA Safety Requirements for their CRUZ S-LSA aircraft may significantly reduce the resale value, USA LSA market share, or desirability of even considering purchasing the latest production 2018 CSA SportCruiser  SKYVIEW equipped aircraft.  The lack of Czech Sport Aircraft factory Support to USA CRUZ S-LSA aircraft owners would force MORE CRUZ S-LSA aircraft owners to convert from S-LSA to Experimental E-LSA in order to legally comply with any TBD Future USA FAA Safety Enhancing directives, and is a serious concern to potential new SportCruiser aircraft owners.
    5. Question: Is Czech Sport Aircraft aware  that Paid CFI Instruction Of potential new SportCruiser aircraft owner Student Pilots is ILLEGAL in the USA FAA regulated airspace using Experimental E-LSA aircraft ?  Many USA Student Pilots learn to fly today in S-LSA PiperSport and SportCruiser aircraft and these Student Pilots eventually buy new (and used) SportCruiser aircraft when issued a Pilot License.   Learning to fly in a SportCruiser S-LSA directly feeds new SportCruiser sales.   However, this pipeline of potential new SportCruiser aircraft owners would STOP  when the CFIs are unable to instruct new student Pilots in an Experimental E-LSA SportCruiser or E-LSA PiperSport aircraft.
    6. Question: What is the Czech Sport Aircraft company plan and strategy  to “shore up”  and IMPROVE  existing SportCruiser & PiperSport S-LSA aircraft owner’s confidence in the long term viability of CRUZ S-LSA aircraft USA ownership and also clarify understanding of the CSA manufacturer’s strategy Re Long Term CUSTOMER SUPPORT - After the Sale - of USA CRUZ  S-LSA aircraft ?

There are many existing CZAW SportCruiser and CSA factory built PiperSport & SportCruiser aircraft owners on this SCFLIER SportCruiser forum who absolutely LOVE flying their excellent SportCruiser/PiperSport S-LSA CRUZ aircraft, but these aircraft owners are understandably disturbed and very concerned for the long term viability of the SportCruiser S-LSA aircraft line here in the USA, due to actions apparently in work now at Czech Sport Aircraft.

Thank you to Cruiser Aircraft for interpreting, clarifying, and explaining  the Letter of Authorization (LOA)  Actions (and ADS-B OUT Service Bulletin Actions ?) and also explaining USA S-LSA CRUZ aircraft CSA factory Customer Support strategy being taken now by the Czech Sport Aircraft S-LSA aircraft manufacturer.

  2. to All SCFLIER Forum Members

"Forum Information & News from the Admin"

is generally used only by me,  the Admin,  to provide "New Topics" specifically related to Forum Info and also News about the SCFLIER Forum:

    • New Software Versions and Forum Features from our Website Supplier
    • Problems with the forum,   and Service Tickets written by me to get our Website Supplier to solve them
    • NEWs about your Forum - new features coming soon
    • HOW TO Operate the Forum,  Tips on Using the Forum
    • Current Number of Activated SCFLIER Forum Members
    • Data on Members Accessing the Forum per day,  New Postings Each Month,  ... Forum Statistics
    • more

Of course all Forum Members are welcome to comment on my postings here.

However, even though there have been a couple GREAT Exciting New Postings with Cool Pictures posted to the "Forum Information & News" area lately,

this Area  is (usually) NOT the place for an Individual Forum Member to "Start A New Topic",  for example,

pictures of XYZ,  or asking SCFLIER Forum Members about how to Change the Oil in their SportCruiser or Use the Dynon AutoPilot,  etc.

Please Don't Misunderstand,   we all LOVE Great Postings,  Pictures,  and More about your SportCruiser adventures and Maintenance Tips,  Rotax ideas,  and Thoughts on how to land on a grass strip with a SportCruiser,

    but

Please use the existing topics and the existing Outline structure of the forum,   and

IF your topic area is not already covered,

then feel free to "Start A New Topic" under ANY  of those

existing Forum Outline Areas.   (But Not Forum Information & News).

For example,  if you have a question or problem with your Throttle or Choke Cables feeding the Rotax 912 engine,

FIRST,  Check to see if that Topic has already been covered.    The Forum Search (Magnifying Glass ICON top right) feature can speed this process.

If your Topic of Interest is NOT already Covered,  then please "Start New Topic" and post your "New Topic" - in a logical place in the Forum Outline.

for this example of Throttle and Choke cables feeding control of the Rotax Engine,

    Start your New Topic

    under the

MAINTENANCE ISSUES & ANSWERS area of the forum,

    Subtopic   ROTAX ENGINE

Another Example,  if you HAVE Useful Information or need a question answered on SportCruiser Avionics,

please use one of the several Subtopic areas in the "AVIONICS": area of our Forum:

    • General Avionics Discussions
    • GPS Conversations
    • Electronic Flight Bags (iPads and such)
    • Accessories
    • Software Updates - to SportCruiser Avionics boxes and iPad/iPhone Applications

Another example,  Nose Landing Gear Issues and Discussions can be found

under the main outline MAINTENANCE ISSUES & ANSWERS area of the forum

    subtopic "AIRFRAME/EXTERIOR/INTERIOR" .

If you simply cannot find a Forum Outline area that "includes" your topic,  for example,

    (ha ha - it's a joke.....)

how to add JATO Rocket Powered STOL Assist to your Experimental Sport Cruiser,

    please "Start New Topic" under

    "SPORTCRUISER GENERAL DISCUSSION"

    subtopic "RANDOM THOUGHTS"

then START (your) NEW Topic "JATO Rocket Assist for STOL SportCruiser Aircraft".....there,

under Random (probably not a good idea in this case) Thoughts.

it takes a little more time and effort to keep our SCFLIER Forum organized

but posting your "question or topic of the day" under the first available area,  "Forum Information & News"  will not help other Forum Members

    FIND

Topics that they may be looking for....

Please take a moment to look thru the Forum Outline,

and/or use the "SEARCH" Icon,  top right Magnifying Glass ICON,  to find an appropriate place to put your new topic discussion or additional comments on an already existing posting.

    Everyone on the FORUM

    WELCOMES

New Discussion Topics and Your Inputs

    AWESOME !!!

But keeping the SCFLIER Forum Organized is Also IMPORTANT.

    THANK YOU

  7. To all friendly SCFLIER Forum members

As the SCFLIER Admin, it is my decision whether to “Approve” (or DisApprove)

    all new member requests.

I believe that an OPEN Forum is a better Forum, and can provide

    MORE USEFUL Information to the

obvious FOCUS of the WORLDWIDE SCFLIER Forum:

    • SportCruiser Aircraft owners and Pilots
    • PiperSport aircraft owners and Pilots
    • PS-28 aircraft owners and Pilots

It is is extremely RARE that I reject a new member request  and the VAST Majority of SCFLIER members fit one of  the three categories above.

I DID Approve our new SCFLIER Forum Member HWICK2000, based on a standard, quick,  “two way communication” via email.

I knew that HWICK2000 owned a Bristell, and I thought this to be an ADVANTAGE  for existing SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 Members for the following reasons:

    1. Milan Bristella LEFT CSA to design a “3rd Generation” LSA.  Milan is a superb aircraft designer and it seems he may have had ideas which he chose to implement on the newer Bristell LSA to IMPROVE on his previous AWESOME design, the SportCruiser LSA.  Existing SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 Pilots, Owners, and even CSA and Cruiser Aircraft might learn something (pro or con) about the Bristell changes compared to the SportCruiser.   An open mind would be interested in new information.
    2. the Bristell shares our Rotax engine and has  improved on it with higher horsepower engine option choices.  The 914 Turbo and (in Europe) the  915 iS.    While CSA may not want to sell SportCruisers with higher horsepower (heavier) engines, existing SportCruiser or PiperSport and PS-28 owners may be allowed (for example going E-LSA in the FAA regulated USA) to change engines for increased Climb performance, Cruise speed, or both.  Why not LEARN about new 912, 912iS, 914, 915iS .... Rotax engine technology (Pro and Con) that might someday apply to our favorite SportCruiser airplane ?
    3. If we close our eyes and don’t look at what the competition is doing, the SportCruiser line will NOT survive long term.  An example - while I do like many new features of the Vans Aircraft RV-12iS LSA,  I DON’T like the RV-12’s design choice (just one example) of putting the fuel tank INSIDE  the cockpit.    Ouch. To me, fuel tanks in the wing mean better survivability in a crash.   The trade off is that the RV-12 has more easily removable wings for transport and garage storage for the airplane.

    Life is about choices.

More Knowledge helps make better choices.

    I will continue to APPROVE

“MOST ALL” new SCFLIER member requests

unless they are Spammers, Salespeople intent on turning our forum into a SPAM AD site, Robot Computers, etc.

I ask that we RESPECT and WELCOME all new members, regardless of what particular aircraft they may fly.

The “aircraft type” joining SCFLIER  is self regulating.   There are NOT going to be many V Tail Bonanza Pilot / Owners asking to join the SCFLIER Forum.

But another TYPE LSA aircraft owner that uses a Rotax 912 / 912iS / 914 / 915 engine ?   This owner may  have VERY useful information for a

    SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28

    aircraft owner.

Please RESPECT other people's varying opinions and backgrounds.

Disagreeing Respectfully is perfectly fine. A good way to learn more.

We all have OPINIONS and that’s what On Line Forums are about.

Friendly, USEFUL, NEW Information related to

    our favorite LSA aircraft,

    the SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28

is what THIS  SCFLIER forum is about.

    Dave

  8. Since it appears that there is

    IMPROVED COMMUNICATION NOW

    between

    SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28

Aircraft owners who are SCFLIER forum members

with Cruiser Aircraft Inc (thanks IZZY !!!)

and a Communications Link appears to be open now leading all the way to the Czech Republic CSA (Czech Sport Aircraft) Management,

I am Posting this item to inform new SCFLIER Forum members of the

extensive work and discussion on the SCFLIER Forum during Spring and Summer of 2016

    to answer the question

”What Improvements Do Pilots/Owners Want in the SportCruiser/PiperSport/PS-28 aircraft ?”

when we last generated a Ranked Improvement List in June and July of 2016, the results were:

The "Top 5" Improvements desired by SCFLIER Forum Voters for the CRUZ S-LSA Aircraft are:

    1. Letter of Authorization(s) from CSA to allow incorporation of the Dynon Angle of Attack Probe to feed AOA sensing for display with existing software in D-100/120 and SkyView Displays. (Angle of Attack Sensing and Display is a USA FAA Recommended Safety Improvement for all General Aviation Aircraft)
    2. Improved Cruise Speed and Climb Performance. (Sure,  the CRUZ is only a 100 Hp LSA,  but the RV-12 LSA is faster and many LSA are lighter weight)
    3. Improved Engine Cooling on the Ground especially in Hot Climates. (Get some more cooling air directed to the SportCruiser’s Rotax Cylinder Heat Sink Fins, especially on the Ground during extended taxi)
    4. Improved Reliability of the Ducati Rectifier/Regulator, especially in Hot Conditions. (Get some cooling air to the SportCruiser’s Ducati mounting location)
    5. Improved Inside Cockpit Canopy Release Handle. (the canopy release handle and latching system continues to play a role in CRUZ Accidents)

Also, at the top of the list in the summer of 2016 was

CSA Letter Of Authorizations for USA CRUZ S-LSA owners

to add ADS-B OUT and IN equipment to older Non SKYVIEW equipped S-LSA aircraft operating in the USA.

    THE 2016 RESULT ?

    ZERO RESPONSE

    from Czech Sport Aircraft.

Of course the CRUZ S-LSA Improvements Desired list and Ranking of items can change over time.  Evolving Pilot/Owner input is important and may be revised with new input.

And,  there have been significant top Management changes at both Czech Sport Aircraft and Cruiser Aircraft after Oshkosh 2017.

And,  CSA did add "Sizzling Exterior Ramp Appeal" to the latest 2017/2018 SportCruiser aircraft with exciting new paint schemes,   and "Sizzling Interior Ramp Appeal" with the New Seats and Headrests,   Item 11 on our Ranked List.

Now — what about items 1 through 10 ?       (There are 13 total SportCruiser LSA  Improvement Ideas with three ties at Ranked Items 6, 8, and 9).

It is apparent to me that

(just one example, Tecnam LSA is another)

    VANS AIRCRAFT

    LISTENS and RESPONDS

    with aircraft upgrades

    to their Pilot community

    and Vans Aircraft

IMPROVES the design and safety and operational characteristics of their

    RV-12  LSA

in response to Pilot Owner input.

Will Czech Sport Aircraft step up to the competition and do the same for CRUZ S-LSA Pilot Owners ?

The alternative course of action for CSA is awesome looking new CRUZ S-LSA paint schemes,  but no significant design changes affecting aircraft Performance, Safety, Reliability, ....more....to the aircraft underneath the new paint other than better seats and headrests.

    Great Idea !

going Experimental E-LSA has many advantages,  but is not for everyone.

As I expect you may already know,  Experimental aircraft may NOT be used for hire,   and they may (or may not,  depending on the aircraft equipment and Maintenance logs and practices), experience a potential decrease in Market Value - to SOME Pilots who don't "like" Experimental aircraft.

Many Pilots,  however,  prefer Experimental Aircraft for the flexibility and freedom of equipping the aircraft with the latest FAA recommended safety equipment,  such as ADS-B OUT and IN,   Angle of Attack measurement and Display,   State of the Art NAV/COM equipment,  more...

In the USA FAA Regulated Airspace,  an E-LSA must always REMAIN a Light Sport Aircraft (1320 lbs limit,  120 Knots CAS limit,  Fixed Ground Adjustable propeller,  more)

but,  an E-LSA may be equipped for IFR flight and flown in IMC,   assuming of course that the Pilot In Command has an Instrument Rating,

and an E-LSA Owner may make "Minor" and "Major" changes to the aircraft (within the USA LSA boundaries) without requiring  a Letter of Authorization from the manufacturer,  Czech Sport Aircraft.  The USA E-LSA FAA Operating limitations are quite different from S-LSA Operating Limitations.

    see

for more  ideas on the Pros and Cons of converting your S-LSA to E-LSA

  16. FYI to all SCFLIER Forum Members

the IPS Forum Website Maintainer Company SW Upgrade to the latest version,

    4.2.3

with new Features and important Security Checks and Hacker Attack prevention code

    is NOW

    INSTALLED AND COMPLETE.

My initial checks verify everything is there and operation appears normal,  so far.

I am sure there will be some new Features that folks Like and some that Folks Dis-Like.

Such is Life with an Internet Forum.

Please notify me via email at

    scflieradm@yahoo.com

with any Comments,  Complaints,  or Concerns

    your Friendly Admin

Also,   and I have offered this before on the Forum,   the Admin can

Delete Any Posts Any Where by Any Member on the Forum.

The intent of course is for the Admin to be able to delete Highly Objectionable or Offensive Posts.  We NEVER have had that problem on the SCFLIER Forum,  and all our participating members post "Non-Objectionable" Material.   So Far So Good.

If any SCFLIER Wants, one of their Own Individual original SCFLIER Posts to be deleted,

please send me an email at

    scflieradm@yahoo.com

and I will be glad to manually go thru the Admin process to delete your old,  No Longer Wanted Posts.

And,  although the "edit out all of your post material except for (at least) one individual typed character remaining" may be tiresome,  it will work for each and every SCFLIER Member.

My apologies for forgetting that at least ONE Typed character must remain in the Member Edited Post.

    Regards

    D

PS - edited - All Forums by IPS are NOT the same.   MANY Settings and Different Software Versions.

I do know that IPS is moving towards more and more "Internet Security" checks and balances,   and that may be driving some of "our" Forum's responses vs "other" forums.....

  18. FYI and for your "preparation"

the IPS company that handles our SCFLIER Forum Website has been working on some upgrades to our latest April 2017  "version 4" software.

My attitude on software upgrades is that they are a good thing, and can provide new features and security protection enhancements.   Good to "keep up" with the software upgrades.

However, I do not like to "jump" and Upgrade ANY software on the FIRST VERSION of a new Major release, instead waiting a while for the bugs to get worked out to keep from messing up the forum with not totally "ready" Software Upgrades.

About a month ago, version 4.2 came out.

Then, about two weeks ago, 4.2.1 was advertised to fix "bugs and problems" with 4.2.

And, this week, version 4.2.2 was advertised to fix additional small issues and repair security issues found by IPS forum customers.

So, we are getting close to Upgrading our software soon - probably in the next few weeks if no more "bug fix iterations" come out....

for those interested in the "What's New " coming with SCFLIER Forum Website software upgrade "4.2.X",

here is a teaser YouTube video...

    https://youtu.be/FIX9QuyZsxc

    stay tuned

    Dave

your friendly, but cautious with software upgrades until the always expected SW bugs get fixed....

  19. FYI - no action required

As many know,   the SCFLIER Forum is maintained and supported,  protected from viruses/spam attacks,  backed up Monthly,  Members' Individual  LogIn (Display Name) and Password data kept,  etc.  by a company called IPS in Virginia.  This company was selected by the Prior Admin "SierraCharlie",   and continued by me,  the Second and Current Admin of SCFLIER.

A small monthly fee (paid by the Admin) is required from IPS to keep our SCFLIER Forum Website running and up to date.

There are MANY different plans and support options available from Website Suppliers.

Our Original Plan, called "Standard25",  is one of the "smaller" support packages,  and included

    1. A Maximum Number of 25 Total SCFLIER Forum members on-line accessing the Website at any one time
    2. A Maximum Amount (2 gig in GigaBytes) of Media and Storage space on the IPS Computer servers
    3. An UNLIMITED Number of total SCFLIER Forum Members who have log-in privileges and access to SCFLIER

In the past year,  we have added many new SCFLIER Members,   a very good thing for Information Exchange about the awesome CRUZ type Light Sport Aircraft,  called SportCruiser, PiperSport,  or PS-28 in different countries and depending on when the aircraft was built and by whom (CZAW or CSA).

Our IPS Support plan was upgraded from the "Standard 25" plan to a "25 Member / 5 Gigabyte Storage Plan" last year.

Recently,  we have been "approaching" our current Maximum Storage Limit of 5 gigabytes,  which is primarily driven by User Uploaded Images (High Resolution Pictures).

We have NOT typically approached the limit of our "low level" IPS Website "Standard25" plan of 25 Total Members on-line at any one time.   No problem here. This 25 member  limit is much larger than our typical daily "at any one time" Log-Ins of approximately 5-6 SCFLIER Members.

Today,  to make sure that our SCFLIER Forum continues to operate smoothly for all members,  your friendly Admin (me)

Upgraded our IPS Website Support plan

from the "25 member / 5gig storage" Plan

    • 25 maximum members on-line at any one time
    • 5 gigabytes Media & Storage limit
    • Unlimited Total SCFLIER Members with log-in privileges

     to

a new,  slightly larger Website Support Plan called "Super 65" which will allow us room to grow in the future:

    • 65 maximum members on-line at any one time
    • 8 gigabytes Media & Storage limit
    • Unlimited Total SCFLIER Members with log-in privileges

One way that individual SCFLIER Forum members can help is to reduce the overall size and quantity  of Very High Resolution photos that may be uploaded to the SCFLIER Forum.   Choosing "medium or low" resolution on JPEG files to be uploaded can help reduce our total storage requirements.   It is up to the individual SCFLIER Member to choose Uploaded Image Storage requirements and Resolution - sometimes,  High Resolution photos are needed to get a point across.  There are also ways that I can take to "compress"  (Reduce displayed resolution of) some especially large uploaded images,  but I have not taken that (editing images) step at this time.

Details of the IPS Website Support plan upgrade are included in the attached (low resolution) Pictures below.

The SCFLIER Forum continues to be free to all members,  with the monthly charges paid by the Admin.

    Enjoy

    regards

    Dave
